Reopening of Spaceship Earth Delayed
Disney has pushed back the opening date for Spaceship Earth.
There have been some rumblings that they were going to push back the delay, but now its official.
The new reopening of Spaceship Earth has been pushed back to February 19th 2008 according to the official Walt Disney World site.
It stinks it got pushed back, but its better to have them push back the opening then to do a half-hearted refurb.

Feb. 2008? I thought it was going to take over a year for this project.

^ Haha about Test Track.
Well, that's too bad for those who'd have trips and were hoping to see it refurbed on their vacation. I'm not one of those people so it doesn't matter to me. LOL
But agreed that hopefully it means a good, thorough job upon completion!

well, with this news, I'm kind of glad I put off the trip this year. I just can't go to Epcot without going on SSE at least once.

The day after SSE closed, I spoke with a guest service cast member. She said that it could be as late as March, with all the work that needed to be done. I don't always listen to CM's, many don't really know what they are talking about. But I could tell that she was a Disney and SE fan, and seemed to know what was going on (and gave me a few details, like about how it'd be interactive and such). She appears to be right!
I would rather it be sooner than later, I am planning to get pics on opening day.

This stinks, I was really looking foward to being there on opening day when it ever got reopened but guess looks like I won't see it for a few years since I probably won't be going to Disney for a few years after I finish the College Program
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

OOPS!!!! I don't know why I read that Space Mountain!?!?! I know the answer to this one!! It's being delayed because..well two reasons.
1: Each car is getting it's own computer. The company supplying the loaded hard drives has only been able to get a few to Disney a week (They were originally suppose to get then between 12 and 15 a week, they're only getting them 4 to 6.) It was going to take just over 3 weeks to install all the computers, now they don't know how long is going to be.
2: The contractor that did the deconstruct, Well, they screwed up!! They've torn down, destroyed, and chucked some stuff in the dumpster that they were never supposed to touch. This has cause big delays and some hugh expenses.
I still don't know who the voice is going to be. It's a very closely guarded secret.
I wish I could say how I know this. If I said how, people would know who and I don't want to get anyone in trouble. I'll just say thanks!!

Funny you put it that way. That's exactly the tool they used.Captain Schnemo wrote:They should really be saving this stuff in a museum, not hiring contractors to go at it with sledgehammers.Jacca5660 wrote:The contractor that did the deconstruct, Well, they screwed up!! Sorry gang, especially to Steve and others traveling between the dates it was supposed to open and now is scheduled to - that's a huge bummer.
I rode it just before it went down this year and it was in desperate need of TLC, let's hope it's back in full glory in February.

I'm so sad! I was all excited to be going to Epcot during the 25th anniversary and riding my favorite Spaceship Earth with all the new updates. What a shame they couldn't have it open for almost half of the 25th year.
That being said, I do know the challenges of construction timing. I wish they would get planners who could put out more realistic (or even slightly pessimistic) opening dates. Let's hope the new updates are worthy of this classic!

Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Amending my earlier post: A big complaint about the hard drives. They could be cloned by most desk top computers quicker then the vendor the has contracted the job.
