I personally would prefer it to be at Universal. Probably some of you will disagree with me on this, but anything bigger like this, and Disney would become a monopoly. I'm not quite sure if Disney World could provide such a large space for Harry Potter either, and HEY, they already have a MAGIC KINGDOM!
-I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't watched it.

-I don't know, I wasn't watching.

if you look at the original post on page 1 of this thread, it lists the opening sometime in late 2009. Everything I've heard put is around November 2009, with the latest opening (if there are problems) in early January 2010. I'm sure that as the opening draws nearer, we'll hear more concrete datestwitch wrote:I didn't see it in the article, but was any time-table of completion given? IOW, any guesses when this island will be completed?
Thanks!

Building on my idea... I suppose instead of being bussed, you'd have to ride the Hogwarts Express...twitch wrote:Thanks...
I'm surprised they aren't working on timing it with the theater premier of the 7th movie...
Imagine coming to a the first US showing of the movie and then being bussed into the theme park for the grand opening of this area...

I believe that the true spirit behind Disney is something that Walt brithed himself well over 50 years ago. That being said I feel that Universal will do a great job with the new "land" however, it will never be Disney.
Universal has taken theme park dining to a whole new level with Mythos - voted 5 years in a row best restaurant in a theme park by Theme Park Magazine. Spiderman, Men in Black and the Revenge of the Mummy all rock, to hit some highlights.
I love both Disney and Universal here in Orando and in LA - both are fun, both are entertaining - but only Disney has the spririt of Disney! It's that special time with family and friends that can be compared to nothing.

The way I'm begining to see it is that Disney is becoming simply classic. The place where all children will go and whose children will go and whose children's children will go. However, Universal is the one that's becoming cutting edge. It's kind of sad. Disney used to hold the title for Classic and Cutting Edge while Universal was considered "the leech". Now both parks will have to share a different part of the glory: The classic and the amazing mind-blowing attractions.
I guess it's a good thing that Disney is still the one that is the most sentimental. Universal is definitley earning a spot on the map though and Disney is just watching because they know people will visit Disney no matter what. Imagine if Universal is able to steal away Disney's sentimentality from the next generation. Then the roles of the parks would be reversed. Today's children, years from now, will be taking their kids to Universal, with a side-trip to Disney World.
I see this new Harry Potter land as a revolution for Universal.
(^^My very long opinion^^)

It probably has a good chance, because not only are there movies, but kids will be reading the books for a long time into the future. The foundation is there for longevity unlike one movie to base the Twister show on. However, I was sad to see the Back to the Future ride go, though it last a long time based on the three movies.

Somehting i thought of last visit... all the islands are based off of books or some type of literatureIt probably has a good chance, because not only are there movies, but kids will be reading the books for a long time into the future
Comic Books
Sunday Funnies
Jurassic Park (probably the only movie that's better than its book)
Harry Potter
Lost Continent is a little bit of stretch, but it's basically pagan and greek/roman mythology along with The 1001 Arabian Nights (Sinbad) and The Once and Future King. I think of it as a darker version of Disney's Fantasyland. Or better yet, more realistic Fantasyland, without the happy Disney sugar-coating.
Dr. Seuss Books
I know that the fact that they're all based on literature probably isn't what makes them successful (many of them have corresponding tv shows or movies that are more famous), but it's interesting nontheless.
