Singing with the Dapper Dans

Post by rmorton50 » Sep Tue 18, 2007 9:27 pm

I don't know if there are a lot of people who know this, but, If you're a barbershop quartet singer and a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly SPEBSQSA), the Dapper Dans will let you sing a song with them.

When the Dapper Dans have finished their normal show, ask them if you can sing a song with them, and they will usually be glad to do so. I've done it on at least four occasions. They will ask if you are a "Barbershopper". If you reply "yes" and tell them what part(s) you can sing, the Dapper Dan who sings your part will step out and you can take his place. All "Barbershoppers" know at least twelve songs (called the pole-cat songs), and they will either start singing one of the twelve or ask you what you'd like to sing.

After you have your fun and shake hands, they'll give you a calling card making you an honorary member of the main street Dapper Dans! What a rush, to get to perform with them in front of a crowd on main street!

I don't have a picture on this computer, but I'll try to remember to post one when I get back to home base.

I wish I could carry a tune, that had to be such a great memory. I got to be in the parade several years ago when they would make guests part of the parade. I got to dance with penguins, I am still on a high from that. It was such a cool experience.

Wow, that's really cool. I love barbershop music and we always catch the Dapper Dans when we go to MK. I love to see a pic of you with them.

That's so cool! I love how Disney allows it's guests to be a part of the magic!

That is totally awesome! I just saw the Dapper Dans for the first time last month, and they were really impressive. Cool that Disney acknowledges and encourages something so niche like that.

I just checked and I couldn't find any Dapper Dans tracks on the playlist. Does anyone have some to upload?

Wouldn't you know? I get home for the weekend and can't find the picture I'm looking for - getting to sing with the Dapper Dans. I hope some of you will get the chance.
I have had trouble finding out when they perform. I don't recall seeing them on the daily schedule. I just ask a mainstreet cast member, and they often know whether they are around main street that day, and when they last performed. It seems like they perform for about 15-20 minutes and then take a break for about 40 minutes.

Ok, thanks! I'll try asking a CM on Main St. If you find the picture you're looking for, I'd love to see!

The Dapper Dans are great! I find that it is just by luck if you manage to see them on Main Street! When it was my dad's birthday he got sung to by the Dapper Dans. So if it is your birthday, make sure you get a birthday pin and the Dapper Dans will pick you out of the crowd!

BHS (SPEBSQSA) member here. I have sung with the Dans for the last 3 years and will be doing it again this Summer. I know several of them personally. A friend just got a permanent position with them. There are about 12 guys who rotate the schedule.

That would be my dream job. I'll find some of my pics and post them.

The only things that would happen if I sang would be:

Children crying

People running and screaming out of the park

Amnesty International investigating possible mass torture charges

Disney banning me for life

Did I mention that I really can't sing very good.

That sounds like a great opportunity. Come to think of it, I don't know if I've ever seen the Dapper Dans perform before. I'll have to look out for them next time I'm there.
