I've read that Imagineers are "now toying with adding an interactive feature to The Haunted Mansion. The new technology would allow MK visitors to "capture" a restless spirit on their cell phone while riding through the Liberty Square favorite. Guests would then, by downloading this computer-generated spirit to their home computer, actually be able to live it out The Haunted Mansion's famous closing line ("...and a ghost will follow you home").

Has anyone heard anything about this?!

Very cool update! Can't wait to ride it next year!

About the pop-up heads, I noticed their absence in DLR's attic scene when we were there last month and it was a welcomed change. Not only because the effect was kinda dated, but they used to scare the heck out of me when I was really little. Ever since then, there has always been something about them that freaked me out. I'm glad to hear that they're now gone from WDW.

I hope this doesn't mean that people will be getting there phones out during the ride. That would be as distracting as someone taking FLASH PICTURES!!!!! I can imagine all of the lit screens now. Although the one place I enjoy seeing cell screens is just before the drop on POTC, it always makes me laugh to see the screen and then all of a sudden zzzzzzzzip right down the ramp.

The 'ghost in the phone' idea is cute, but I'm not sure I want to support anything that encourages people to have their phones out on the rides. Lit screens aside, I'm sure it'll encourage some people to talk on them, or have ringers going off, etc. (more so than already happens). I'd rather people just forgot about their phones when they're inside attractions...

I guess it depends how the technology works. I'd be interested to hear more about it.

I guess I didn't think of it that way, I could be annoying to have people with cell phones out. I got the info. from my Unofficial Guide to WDW 2008. I wonder if a cast member would know anything about this?! I'll try to find something out when we go next month!

I just saw some youtube videos of the new ride and CANNOT wait to get down there to see it. :D

I really like the glowing eyes from Phantom Manor and I'm really glad they found a use for the old portraits instead of replacing them. The thing that really caught my attention though on both videos was the the gasps, and "omgs" when Master Gracey "hit the floor" in the stretching room. I can't wait to experience that in person, it even sstartled me wearing the headphones.

I'm trying so hard to resist the urge to look at anything on YouTube so I don't completely 'spoiler' myself before I go, but my resistance is wearing thin.

It's on YouTube already? :D

Okay, I think I'm gonna cave and watch it. I can't wait a year until I'm able to experience it for myself. :P

As for the cell phone thing, I'm gonna have to agree with what was already said. I'd rather not have to deal with more people with their phones out on attractions. It's annoying so as it is.

Resist the temptation HSolo29 !

The Vid will not be as good as the ride; the ride may not be as good once you have watched the Vid.

I rode Haunted mansion on Thursday morning after the grand reopening. As you would expect, there was a huge crowd waiting to get on, but the queue moved quickly and I waited no more than about 20 minutes.

Overall I was impressed with the changes made to the attraction. Disney cleaned up the audio and improved the surround effects. The other changes were fairly minor (I won't spoil them for you) and in keeping with the original feel and theme. Unlike the revamp of POTC, I was very happy with this particular refurbishment.

So after seeing the video, I have convinced my dad that we need to go down for at least three days at the end of september. If it wasn't for the awesome video, I don't think he would have given in. :D It just looks like the greatest refurb they have ever done. It even tops pirates.

(Too bad we'll be leaving a day before epcot's 25th :( )

I don't think I'm going to cave and watch this one (stay strong HSolo29!), but I've already read about lots of the changes. Can't wait to see it for myself in January. ::counts days:: Sigh...still too long till I go.

Off topic: Doctor, love the Rocket to the Moon, hope you're enjoying the job as a flight director!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.
