I have yet to try a monte cristo at the BB. Maybe on my upcoming trip.Esmeralda wrote:I posted this under Disneyland Cravings, but thought it deserved a chance here too. For those of you with a little time and a desire for the Monte Cristo at home, try this hot dish. I promise it tastes almost as good as the real thing (minus the fabulous atmosphere - unless you live in a swamp!).

This sounds wonderful I'll be sure and give it a try. Thanks Esmeralda.

Just ate at the Blue Bayou Saturday. It was very good. I got the King Crab legs with sauteed spinach and the Blue Bayou potatoes. My girlfriend got the Beef Short Ribs also with the sauteed spinach and the steamed vegetables. We finished the meal with the Creme brule. Everything was very good. The atmosphere was also very enjoyable. I would definitely go again.

oh my god. Someone went to the Blue Bayou and didn't get a Monte Cristo or clam chowder? Inconceivable! I've honestly never heard of such a thing. But it sounds like you had a great meal, and you enjoyed yourself, which is obviously what really counts. I might even have to try the short ribs or the crab legs next time I go, but probably notcsquare77 wrote:Just ate at the Blue Bayou Saturday. It was very good. That sandwich opened up a whole new world to me.

This is a great restaurant. Wonderful theming and atmopsher and excellent food. Haven't been to DL since '96, but this was a part of that experience and it was a favorite.

The Blue Bayou certainly isn't what it used to be! Our family would travel to Disneyland every summer while we were growing up (Starting about 1984). It was such a fun tradition to eat there! As kids, we loved the pirate masks (now they are hats) and getting the treasure chest dessert (jello cubes with whipped topping). As the years have gone by, little by little, they have dropped all the fun foods (save the Monte Cristo of course) like the clam chowder and the fried zucchini for more adult fare. It is SO expensive and now they charge extra to share plates?!?!? This last time we went to Disneyland, (April 2007) I was unimpressed. I LOVED the Blue Bayou growing up and now I'm sorry to say, I don't think it's worth going again. Just another thing Disneyland had to ruin. I'm all for change, but some changes are not so good......

Like you, I grew up on Blue Bayou (since '84 too!) and i was going to disagree with you on the menu stuff.faxprincess wrote:The Blue Bayou certainly isn't what it used to be! But then I looked at the latest menu online. wow. they did really raise the prices. Just last year the monte cristo was only $13 and now it's almost $20. I can't believe that. I was also shocked to see that they got rid of the clam chowder. I never ever thought they would do that, but now it's apparently not on the lunch or the dinner menu. Looks to me like it's now a once per trip visit, whereas my wife and i were planning on going at least twice. I don't think I can ever not go to Blue Bayou when i visit, because of the nostalgia and the monte cristos of course. But thanks for the update. I do think the menus have been hats for about ten years at this point, and I think that's okay, as the hats are actually a lot easier to wear than the masks were anyway

We went a couple of weekends ago with my parents (who hadn't been in over a year). My parents have always enjoyed going to Disneyland a lot and got us annual passes when we were growing up. They both really enjoyed the Blue Bayou and agreed that it was worth the price (although just once per trip). They thought that Disneyland did a good job actually changing things around to justify the price jump, with improved service and enhanced side dishes and soup/salad with your meal.

You are probably right about just treating the water. My family and I had waterfront seats and didn't get the chlorine at all. Still, that must have been a little disspointing. I imagine that they usually treat it overnight, but maybe something happened durign the day and they had to treat it immediately?Bullwinkle wrote:We went recently and my wife thought the smell of chlorine (from the ride) was overwhelming. They may have just treated the water though.
