wow. that was rather depressing to hear. i had heard rumors of it being removed but wasn't sure of it actually happening. i pretty much lived in the gallery when i was at the park. i spend hours in there, or just sitting on the balcony. hmm, that really is sad.

Hey gang. Say what you will but when I heard the Gallery was closing I was almost crushed. It's not so much that they're removin it as much as what they're replacing it with. They're going to turn it into a guest suite for contest winners. I know I'm being difficult but I still believe some places should be allowed to stay as they are and not be renovated just to accomodate a onetime shot for a few fortunate people. The Gallery itself IS one of those out of the way places, (above Pirates notwithstanding) that allowed people to essentially "get away from it all" and spend some genuine quiet time in their favorite place. Now if it were Club33, that's another story. Later, peace.

I was thinking the same thing, but what they're reportedly planning on doing with it is restoring it to Walt's original apartment area. I think this does a better job of restoring it back to Walt's original intention, if that is your argument. Granted, it probably won't be accesible by the public, aside from basic viewing, but I think it will add a little to the mystique of th park.

I don't care how good the replacement is if it means it's exclusive. I know exactly what will happen. It'll be a cool thing to get into for a year or so and then either abandoned or turned into offices.

I heard from a good insider source, a DL cast member, that the DL Gallery will re-open on Jan 8th 2008. This is what the park is advising them on their internal website.

I just recieved an email from disney stating that the new dream suite located in the old disney gallery will be completed sometime in February. The email stated that you can not rent the suite you can only win a stay there.

Really? That's a bummer. :\ I've only seen the Disney Gallery once and I barely remember it.

What's really funny about the whole "dream suite" thing is that they'd better really have sound-proof glass in that place, because otherwise, anyone who stays there will get absolutely no sleep. As someone who used to work the 7:00 pm to 2:30 am shift, I can tell you that nothing in Disneyland ever shuts off - not the music, not the sound effects, nada. Furthermore, the wee hours of the morning is when electric carts and powerwashers trundle through the streets of NOS and the rest of the park, picking up trash, dropping off supplies, and hosing down the streets for the new day. If the winner was expecting an idyllic stay in the "dream suite," I'd start by acclimating for a week in New York city, in a ground floor apartment.

Just goes to show why you shouldn't let marketing people play imagineer!

There are pictures of it but it's not good enough. It shows the entrance and the signs. I'm waiting for pictures of the inside. I remember seeing it once on the news and it looked amazing.

we went to DL in 2006 and didn't even know what the disney gallery was! we missed it, and now it's gone...oh well :?

we did see the really cool exhibit with all of the ticket books and old plans where the movie with steve martin about DL plays. i forget the name of the hall and the movie...

i've looked up a bit online...so the disney gallery was mostly paintings and posters and memorabilia? i think someone said they bought something there? was it mostly an exhibit and a shop near it or an exhibit you can actually buy pieces of DL history from?

sorry i'm so naiive when it comes to a lot of DL stuff lol...

no problem Chesire Stitch. It was a combo exhibit hall / store. They would generally have themed exhibits (Pirates of the Carribean, history of Fantasyland, etc.) throughout the space that would rotate. In the center of the area was a store area where you could buy cool merch like polo shirts or jackets, as well as books and I believe it was the first location with the automated touch screen print on demand service for park posters. Sometimes some of the art on display was available for purchase, and other times it wasn't. They would even have unique pieces there like Davey Jones' pipe for PotC movie or original plan models of the Indy ride. There was also a little coutyard where you could sit and relax.

That would be the Walt Disney: The First 50 Magical Years. it's in the old Opera hall where Great Moments with President Lincoln was.

Partially true....... All the art that was on display was for sale, with the exception of some of the stuff in the main entrance which was part of the ambience. The courtyard was used for the end of tours, such as the Walk in Walt's Footsteps. The balcony was used for the Fantasmic Dessert, you payed for a seat on the balcony and you could watch Fantasmic while eating Dessert, never did it myself but was planning it then they eliminated it two weeks before I was going to do it

The POTC stuff was there and they had the "chair" from Deadman's Chest, the one from the cannibal island. The Pipe as you mentioned, as well as the "chest" that kept the heart of Davey Jones. All of this was fake and just replicas not the actual stuff they used in the movies, but it was cool. The one thing I really loved in the Gallery was the model of Mainstreet. It was made from all of the Olszewski collection:

I loved seeing that model get bigger and bigger each time I was there.......ah The memories.........

Hey gang. As of right now my opinion of the idea of replacing the Gallery with the Dream Suite hasn't changed. However, having said that, I will concede that the Suite does offer some interesting things that once again prove that the company can still be creative when it wants to. What really gets up my nose however is just the idea that if the company had taken a little more time and effort to actually create a seperate space where some of these ideas could have been utilized it probably could have worked out better all around. Well, before I give myself a headache thinking about too much, I'll let yu go. Later, peace.
