Ratatouille coaster "green lighted" for Studios

Post by AKLRULZ » Aug Fri 24, 2007 5:31 am

This is being reported on www.screamscape.com:
Screamscape sources have informed us that Walt Disney World management has just approved the budget to fast-track construction of a new indoor spinning roller coaster based on the film Ratatouille. As rumored for the past few weeks, the ride system will be based on the coaster design used for Crush’s Coaster that just opened earlier this summer at Walt Disney Studios Paris. This is a customized varient of the Maurer-Sohne SC-2000 layout. The new coaster is expected to be placed in the Soundstage One area right next to Toy Story Mania and construction could start within the next six months.
First off, I wonder the validity of the rumor, although I've seen it on a couple of sites. The Crush Coaster is a larger coaster than Primeval Whirl with longer drops and curves and the riders are seated in twos back to back so the concept seems a bit different. I guess time will tell, but I think it sounds like a cool concept.

If they do build this coaster, does anybody know if it will be a tame coaster for kids, or will it be a thrill ride or something for everyone. :donald:

It's just that...a rumor. It's really out there right now and I've heard no reports from any credible sources so really don't get too excited yet.

And I'd trust Quickgold on this one, as he runs a website based on the Studios specifically. I also somewhat doubt the fact that they're basing an attraction on a movie that isn;t even out on DVD yet. Even with the Pixar movies, they usually don;t get made into an attraction for a couple of years after the release, so they can see public response (theater figures don;t work, as alot of people wait until it's released on dvd so they don;t have to pay alot to have it/rent it).

Hmm Ratatouille... reallly....

Ratatouille??

I have heard other rumors about the coaster in MGM. So I think that, at least that part of the rumor is true. I find the theme choice al ittle odd since Ratatouille wasn't the biggest box office smash, and the US doesn't seem to relate to a rat. They do love a mouse though!

I would rather see an Incredibles coaster. But maybe they have the Incredibles locked up for a future E-Ticket.

I"m dissapointed that the ride wasn't placed in Tomorrowland.

Yea I thought it would be a total lock for a referb for Space Mountain. I mean it's getting old, and it doesn't really fit in to the Pixarland.

I agree with deacon! I think an INCREDIBLES coaster makes much more sense. Although I absolutely loved Ratatouille, why no love for the incredibles at the Disney parks? I mean come on "The Incredible Coaster" is anyone listening??

Seems like kind of an odd choice for a new ride, considering how recent the movie is (and that it wasn't a smash-hit blockbuster, at that). I can see how it'd make an interesting ride, at least, but I'm going to wait for more news before I get excited. The way Remy scampers around would be conducive to sudden turns and drops, anyway.

As much as I'd like to see and Incredibles coaster, I'd prefer the idea of an Incredibles E-ticket, with maybe an AA figure or two (dare to dream ;) ).

I could see a Ratatouille restaraunt but not a ride. :D

I agree with you all. How does this ride fit into Disney's Hollywood Studios or whatever? Unless Ratatouille suddenly invades a movie studio, it doesn't really make sense.

Well, perhaps the "theme" for this is Remy's ride through the sewer during the opening of the movie. He does get tossed around quite a bit, so that would make sense as a theme for a "wild mouse" type of coaster.

Regardless of the theming, I hope they come up with something different. I, for one, cannot ride the "spinning" rides like the Tea Cups and the Astro Orbiter because of motion sickness. I've never even tried Primeval Whirl because just looking at it makes me sick to my stomach! If they make another of these spinning-type of coasters, it will be another ride that I'll have to skip at WDW.

Don't think of it as another ride I have to skip, but another distraction to keep the lines in the park more evenly spread out (shorter for you in other places)

Yeah a Ratatouille restaurant would make more sense I have to agree. The coaster sounds like an interesting concept though, but I'd have to hear some concrete evidence about its construction first before I can believe the rumor.
