Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic is a huge HM fan (based on his self-declaration on his podcast). He got a picture of one of the models they're doing for one of the new scenes. Don't know if it's quite true (nor does he) but it's pretty interesting if it is. You can see it and read his comments at http://www.distantcreations.com/blog/20 ... ion-scene/

Wow! This refurb. is going to be AMAZING. I thought we'd get fixed audio and maybe a floating Leota and a new bride, but they're completely redoing the ride! This may be the best thing they've done for MK since building Splash Mountain.

Every art teacher I've ever had has had that famous staircase picture on their classroom walls, I think it's going to be awesome to be able to see a full size scale model, not to mention it will help out that rather dark corner of the mansion.

Hi, I 'm new here. We are going to WDW in December and cannot wait to experience the "new" Haunted Mansion. The upgrades/changes sound great. I know the ride will be better than ever.

Welcome Kieffer12 and let us know how you like the updates! I want to hear reports before I get to see it for myself in January. So far they sound and look (thanks for the link Hypermommy) fabulous!
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Holy pie, those articles and picture look fantastic! Normally I'm a little uneasy when they start monkeying around with the 'landmark' rides - PotC movie/Depp fan that I am, I was even a little squeamish about the movie additions to that ride (which I've yet to see in person). But this certainly looks like they're on a very good track. I particularly like the comment about 'maintaining integrity of the classic ride' as opposed to something like 'updating for a new century' or something. Very promising. :)

I wonder if this 3D audio feature is something entirely new. It doesn't sound like what we have at DLR.

All this is VERY EXCITING! We just got back from WDW this week and really missed the HM (we knew it was going to be closed). This is my favorite experience and I was apprehensive when I heard it was going to be refurbed. But, these changes sound really cool.

By the way, for those of you who haven't seen Pirates since the update, the Cap't Jack figure(s) is really Lifelike. It makes all the other characters look stiff. I liked it.

It'll be nice to see the place spiffied up a bit. That attraction is a staple at WDW.

I remember 2 weeks before we left on our WDW trip in September 2002 it was announced that HM was going to be closed for refurbishments. Oh I was SO disappointed as this is my all-time favorite attraction. It was so hard to walk by the HM with the "Sorry ...." sign!

Forgive my ignorance...

Would the above "priority access" qualify as a soft opening?

No. Sometimes.. well :)

In some cases they do ONLY allow passholders in during a soft launch. Thats what they did with the Monsters Laugh Floor. In this case they are opening the Mansion to all and giving passholders a kind of fast pass.
