I thought I saw it as I was passing by Pirates of the Caribbean though. Strange. But you guys probably know what you are talking about.subsonic wrote:No, borjoyzee is right, it's a part of Frontierland.Magique wrote:It is near New Orleans which is home to Pirates of the Caribbean.borjoyzee wrote: I thought that island was part of frontierland. I thought the upgrades were a nice, and needed, but it didn't have to be pirates. Though, pirates are the new hotness (which being hot means it cools down fast) and it attracts the kids.

I believe you can see the Island from NOS, as well as Frontierland. But, the lauch leaves from Frontierland side, so it's considered a Frontierland atraction

I thought the raft to the island was on the side that NOS was on? Hmmm...I must be confused.
(Sometime later...) I just checked the map of Disneyland on Disney's website and the Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island are on the New Orleans Square side of the Rivers of America. The loading dock for the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Columbia are on the Frontierland side. And I know that it shows in that yellow color on the map where Frontierland ends and that the rafts are "technically" in Frontierland's boundaries, but it's much closer to NOS. So actually, the new "Pirates" theme isn't so far fetched since the rafts are so close to NOS. Just my opinion.

Correct, the rafts leave from NOS but it's still considered a Frontierland attraction due to the theme. The same goes for the late Keel boats. http://tinyurl.com/2n8ddv
Really, what does the Caribbean have to do with New Orleans?

The group that did Sea Chanteys was fun and the show was pretty good. I hope that they do this in WDW.

I was actually surprised that I enjoyed the Pirates Lair. Lots of cool things to do and places to explore (if you're small enough). I really liked the part where you touch the gold treasure and either and eyeball or a head pops up. Freaked me out!
I also like the live entertainment on the island.

When I was on the island, I had a unique experience there. The cast member that was watching the treasure at the end of the island was chatting with her friends (not cast members) for ten + minutes. She only turned to yell at the kids to get off the treasure pile and then she turned back around to chat with her friends. Never saw anything like this in my 25 years of going to Disney parks. Kinda reminded me of going to the local amusement park with all the cranky local kids.....

We had a similar experience. In the same spot. The two cast members were just chatting and not really paying attention. My daughter fell down and bloodied up her knee right infront of them and they did nothing. They didn't even ask if she was ok. I had to go find the rest room and one of the cast members that was cleaning helped us. I thought the cast memebers guarding the treasure were at least supposed to act like they were guarding it.

Wow. How rude of them. As a parent, or any concerned person, I would expect the CMs to do all they can to help take care of it.
When I was on the island this past week, there weren't any pirate CMs protecting the treasure.

Disneyland can't seem to keep Cast Members and has a high turnaround lately. As a result, Disney will hire anybody, which includes people who don't care. Walt used to make his Cast Members feel important and they really cared about the quality of the park. Management is always so stupid, they don't take care of the people who make the difference, the ones that interact with Guests on a daily basis. If you don't treat your staff right then it'll reflect onto the guests.

I would agree. When I worked there (granted it was 4 years ago), the way the cast members were treated basically as if they were working in a non-customer orieneted job. I worked as a ticket taker, and my wife worked in stores. In both of the areas where we worked, the cast members were rarely recognized, and when they were, it was mostly for a longevity milestone and not for doing anything exemplary with a guest. In that sense, it seemed the management was not interested in motivating the cast members to have meaningful interactions with the guests. Of course, most of the cast members were motivated themselves to do as much as possible for the guests, but there were no other motivations for people that were just there to get a paycheck. It sounds like the experience you had with cast members at Tom Sawyer's Island were these people that were only interested in the paycheck. Hopefully as they start to work things out on the island, they can make sure that they get the right cast members there (especially for Tom Sawyer's Island, as skinned knees has to happen at least once a day). Hopefully this didn't ruin your day there (as a little boy some of my favorite Disneyland memories were getting dirty and bloodied at Tom Sawyer's!).subsonic wrote:Disneyland can't seem to keep Cast Members and has a high turnaround lately.
