Hmm that is a good point. While the Test Track music does fit the theme.. its not Fun to be free, by any stretch.
Guess the same could be said for "If you had wings" as well.

I totally agree. But, I have to admit, nancynohorse and I have quite a few giggles while listening to some of the theme music. It sounds very.... "dated" to the 80s, you know?
From that angle, I could see why Disney would replace the music.

I think you it on the head... I guess it has to do with making childhood memories there.jiminycricket wrote:I miss the old Epcot. Like it has been stated before, there are some things that I like about the new, but not more than I miss the old! I guess it has to do with making childhood memories there.
I have such wonderful memories of the 'old EPCOT.' Like Walter Cronkite narrating Space Ship Earth, the cast member floating along on The Land, of course Dreamfinder with Figment and many more. But, at least I have the memories of old EPCOT.

My whole family loved the old EPCOT center. We'd go there over and over. I miss Horizons and World of motion the most. I really do LOVE Mission:Space! I got to ride many times during the soft opening and never had any trouble with it. I like the longer experiences that are classic Disney. Wife and I are going next Saturday and we will spend a lot of time at EPCOT. It's still a great experience overall.

This really isn't a fair question. its like saying do you prefer the atari 2600 vs. the xbox? well...back when i was 8 Atari was so far advanced and awesome i was excited everytime i went to a friends house that had one. today xbox games are far advanced but the whole idea of home entertainment has changed. remember the first cell phones? it was like holding a roller skate to your head. i'm a fan (i'm lying right now) of change...change is good...always embrace change! while we hate a change in our ritual its best not to live in the past.....if they ever change the dole whips i will boycott disney forever.
now that i've gone completely off topic, i'll answer my choice.
The old epcot was better. lets bring back the original world of imagination...move Test Track to Italy pavillion (there's nothing there!) call it ferrari test track! rebuild world of motion, open the Horizon's pavillion, change the land ride to "livin with the Man!" and have it a boat ride through the bad sections of big cities, while police chase us!

I think your observation is a great one but the spin on it is wrong. The formula for making games has not changed though. They just look better and can do more. This is the type of change (upgrades?) Disney needs. If you observe franchises like Super Mario Brothers, Zelda, and Fantasy Star they have basically stuck to the same play styles. In relation to Disney I believe this has happened to rides like (at Disneyland and hopefully WDW) Haunted Mantion, Space Mountain, and Pirates. They have received upgrades to make them more exciting.Croaker wrote:This really isn't a fair question. its like saying do you prefer the atari 2600 vs. the xbox? well...back when i was 8 Atari was so far advanced and awesome i was excited everytime i went to a friends house that had one. today xbox games are far advanced but the whole idea of home entertainment has changed.
I'll say it again, Disney should upgrade not replace. Imagine how incredible Horizons would be if all the animatronics were like Jack Sparrow. So many new effects can be done and ride systems have evolved. Disney could have expanded World of Motion to use the Test Track cars, still told a story like WoM and at the end showed you what the cars of the future would be like by zooming around like it does now.
Give me the old EPCOT with new upgrades that stayed on theme.

Never thought of it that way!?!? Good point up grades would have been the way to go. One thing you can't fore get. Eisner was trying his best to wipe Walt off of Disney. Let's face it Eisner and his people tried to kill the fav five. Where ever they could, they tried to make cheap off the shelf replacements work were the same money could have made an up grade to something that was already there.subsonic wrote:I think your observation is a great one but the spin on it is wrong. I tell you the truth, the sad day will arrive when the Wonders of Life area becomes officially closed for good. I have a feeling that it will happen eventually. For me, I consider this part of the old Epcot. I remember reading an article about this area in elementary school and then finally being there. I was so psyched. Body wars and Cranium Command was so awesome. I'm listening to the loop as I type this and just had a memory of pedaling a bike with a TV telling me how many calories I burned.
I doubt I will ever get back there again before Disney removes it.
BTW, I just bought my first car a few months ago and I understand what "Fun to be Free" means. I see what the fuss is about now. Being able to travel wherever I want is awesome.
