Don't Try This!

Post by delray » Jun Sat 09, 2007 7:47 pm

Hello!
Last week we were at DW and it was one of those mornings when I couldn't pry my DD out of bed with a crowbar. I still wanted to get a fastpass for both of us to EE, so I took her pass with me to AK and figured to get a fastpass for both of us and she could meet me at the park entrance later. I reasoned that the computers wouldn't be smart enough to know she wasn't there and would issue a fastpass. No such luck! The machine wouldn't issue the pass. So for anyone thinking of trying this trick, don't.

Regards,
Delray

I could've told you this. I had a problem where my ticket didn't work at the front turnstiles. the CM standing there let me in the gate, as I had my ID and ticket. when I went to get a fastpass, however, the machine would give me a ticket that said "This is not a valid fastpass". Turns out the magnetic strip on the back somehow got magnetized and stopped working, so I had to get it replaced. but it does seem that the fastpass machines are tied into the turnstiles...

Yes, you will find that the only way to obtain a fastpass is with a VALID park ticket, which means that you must use it to enter the park. I think its really funny to see the guy who runs ahead of the whole crowd and has 20 tickets, and then doesn't bother to look and comes back later with 19 invalids and wonders why they won't accept them. I hope they one day make the fastpass tied into your fingerprint like the ticket is. Then people couldn't put family in line, and send someone for fastpasses, then have to cut through huge crowds to get back to their family.

I hope they don't do this. Last time I went, I didn't give my fingerprints. So long as you have a valid, state-issued photo ID, you can get in without giving your fingerprints.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, when the fast pass machines were first installed , you could put anything in them with a magnetic strip. You could get many fast passes, if you used credit cards, room keys, tickets, etc... But you could only use that card once in about a two hour (+-) window.

Yep I too could have told you that it wouldn't have worked.

Every once in a while you see people complaining about not being able to get a fastpass and it's because if you have a problem with your ticket at the turnstiles there are apparently like 5 different "let you though codes" the CM at the turnstile can use, and some of them may let you in, but doesn't let you get a FP.

one good way to solve everyone's problems is just get rid of fastpass

fastpass triples the stand-by line. So if soarin as a 90 minute wait, it would have only about 30-40 without fastpass.

I might disagree with you and not have a problem with fast pass if there weren't lines for fast pass, too. That's what really gets me. It's not really all that fast if I still have to wait 15, 20 minutes or more. They give out too many.

Fastpass is supposed to make the wait 5-10 minutes...if you're waiting 15-20, the ride broke down, they are allowing in too many people with late tickets, or the cast member is not doing their job at the merge point

Or the Guests themselves are extremely slow moving.

Or, like he said, they're giving out too many. Reducing the number of available FPs would help the problem and be a first step solution before abandoning it completely.

Besides, according to Disney, the system works perfectly... people still wait in the long lines, while those with FPs are out shopping or eating or whatever...

Don't they need to process your ticket and finger at the gate for you to 'be in the park?'

If you rather not do the finger print you can just whip out your drivers license or other valid state issued ID and they code it into the turnstile and let you in. JS and I did it every time we went through, back in December.

They DO limit the amout of fastpasses. Last time we were there they had "run-out" of available fast passes for the little kid rides at Fastasyland in DW, like Pooh, and Peter Pan. They only pass out a certain amount for each time frame, and once they're gone... you're SOL.
