Scarier - R & R Roller Coaster or Expedition EVEREST

Post by Torylovesdisney » Jun Sat 09, 2007 11:29 am

Howdy,

I tend to be roller coaster phobic  as I do not like the feeling of being confined esp. by overhead harnesses. I understand that Expedition EVEREST is more like a traditional wooden coaster and I generally do not have a problem with them (although I'm not a fan of going upside down).

So which do you like better? Which is more scarier?

thanks -- Tory (only 98 days to go till I visit the world again! :D )

I love both rides and think they are both great in their own right. But I am going to lean towards Rock N Roller coaster as being scarier, AND my favorite of the two.

RnR with that take off right from the start can scare the uh... heck... out of you. Then It's almost all dark except for the black lit signs. It's pretty scary and thrilling.

To me Everest is fun, but I don't find it scary at all. Although the Yeti is quite intimidating you whip by it too fast for it to be scary.

Oh... and check it out. 1st poster in this topic, not including the starter. Whoppeee!

Yeah, I think EE is exciting, but not too frightening, at least after the first run. It's not just all 'zoom'. It's smooth, fast and fun. I tend to think of it as a bigger, better Thunder Mountain. You don't have to go upside down.

RnR does have the initial fast take-off, but that's probably the worst part of it. You go upside down once- I think, but hardly notice it until you're almost upright again. To me, the ride is so fast and quick- it's over before you know it. Out of the two, this one is probably more 'scarier'.

I would agree with Lion and Blackie on this. If you're scared of the overhead harnesses, and going upside down, you'll want to steer clear of RnR. Has both of those, and it's all in the dark, so you can't really see what's up next.

Everest is fun, there's a bit in the dark, but it's quickly passed. the Yeti can be a bit scary the first time you see it, but if you ride a couple of times, you realize it's just a big animatronic, so it won't hurt you.

in any case, I'd recommend EE over RnR.

I've never been on Expedition Everest, so I can't say for sure, but when I went on Rockin' Roller Coaster I didn't think it was all too scary. The first part was good, but the rest was boring. I'd probably like Expedition Everest more.

Add me to the RnR is defiantly more scary/thrilling hands down no question.

RnR is a modern high-speed, multi-loop coaster, and it doesn't have a regular lift hill. You are thrown through, it uses a Linear Synchronous Motor which is a lot like what propells the WEDway People Mover but VERY VERY FAST and only for the first few feet.

EE I like to think of as a more classic Disney Attraction. It's heavly themed, there are a lot of fun bits, for me the level of themeing comparable with PotC. RnR has a backstory, that I could have written on the bus one morrning. Joe Rohde I think did an excelent job with EE.

I used to be frightened of loops and whatnot myself, and I must say that RnR is the best roller coaster to overcome this fear if you'd be willing to try. It is really difficult to tell when you're upsidedown since it is all in the dark, and there's also no intimidating "looking up at the ground" effect. This was the roller coaster that let me overcome my fear.

As far as "scariness" goes, RnR defintley has a scary launch, but to me, EE's backwards segment is scary in its own right, especially for first time riders that don't know exactly what the track is going to do.

Yeah, I remember when my sister went on the Rockin' Roller Coaster for the first time. She had been scared of roller coasters that went upside down. The minute we got off the ride she asked, "Did we go upside down?" She didn't even know! Then she ended up riding the ride four or five times in a row. :D

My 60 year old mother roder RNR and thought it was a great ride! Neither EE or RNR are that scary per se. My preference of the two is actually EE as I love the theming and overall experience the ride gives. If I was big thrills I'll go ride Kraken at Sea World or The Hulk at IOA. :D

I've never been on RnR because all that upsidedownness in the dark makes my stomach turn, but I have been on Expedition Everest. I wouldn't put it down as exceptionally scary, but beware of that backwards section! I wasn't afraid of anything other than losing my lunch. Getting to see the Yeti made it all worth it though!

The Yeti was pretty scary the first time I saw it, I couldn't believe how real it looked.

I love both of these rides, but then again, there isn't much I don't ride in terms of "scariness."

I agree with the majority. Of the two, EE is much more tame than RnR. It goes backwards for a short bit while the other goes upside down for a short bit in the dark.

I have to agree with most here, that EE is less scary then RnR, not that I find either very "scary". I think thrilling maybe be a better description. Both are excellent rides.

well said rdeacon.

space mountain, left side in WDW has one drop and being in the dark with glimpses of the scaffolds is more frightening than either RR or EE. but whats really scary is getting stuck in the middle of It's a small world. very damaging.

Having gotten stuck in IaSW I have to agree with Croaker.
