Schnemo sad that you feel that way. Suck is pretty strong. Disney has a long way to go in my eye to actually suck. Are things perfect no, but its very far from sucking. Go to any Six Flags park and you will appreciate the difference that Disney still maintains.

I still find great joy in the parks and its the only place I can go and act like a kid and not get looks... well not arrest that guy looks at least :)

As long as Disney can maintain that level of escapism for me I will always love the parks. This does not mean I turn a blind eye to some declining quality issues, or dislike some of the changes they make. But I am optimistic they have the abilty to wow me, and make improvements.

Remember...Disneyland/WDW will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.

Disney would be foolish to go through with these ideas, but I'm glad to see they're at least throwing ideas around. I'll truly be sad if they ever think the parks are complete. That being said, I sure hope they leave Adventureland as Adventureland and just give it a boost without too much pirate help.

If they want a Pirateland why not build 5th gate with that in it........ They could even include other popular craze's. Here are a few name ideas:

Trendzland
5 minutes of fameland
etc.

Well, it sucks in the way that Spider-Man 3 sucked. If you just ran across it on cable one night, you might think it was a watchable story with some nice effects. As a sequel to arguably the greatest superhero movie ever made...it sucks.
Go to any Six Flags park and you will appreciate the difference that Disney still maintains.
I actually enjoy other parks more. Universal Studios has always sucked, so if ever anything there is entertaining, it's a happy surprise. Islands of Adventure is so unexpectedly superior to the Studios (it's actually embarassing to go from one park to the other on the same day and just feel the energy sucked out of the air as you head into the Studios), that I really enjoy my time there a lot. I've been there many more times than Animal Kingdom, and probably more times than I've been to MGM (which has also always sucked).

Six Flags parks are pretty crappy, but they deliver the goods when it comes to coasters and that's all I'm looking for there.

Basically, if I have the option to watch either paint dry or a poorly colorized, redubbed, edited for content, commercial-interrupted, Greedo-shoots-first version of Bogart's Maltese Falcon, I'll get myself a bowl of popcorn and settle in for 100 minutes of paint fumes.
...I am optimistic they have the abilty to wow me, and make improvements.
I know they have the ability, and that is what makes it all so depressing.

Yeah you couldn't be more on target there. The studios are just so blan and boring. Then to go to a park that is themed well and is intresting to look at just make Universal seem worse.

I also find it very lame that Universal and MGM don't have active sets. Just sad.

I've gone on about this before, but I think the problem is inherent in the Studios concept. (Making the fact that Disney copied Universal to make MGM even more discouraging.)

The main issue is that watching the creation of movies and shows is amazingly boring. Seeing how effects are done, especially in this age of CGI, is even less engaging. The only way this concept is even slightly interesting is in the ability to see the actual real props used in a movie. A room full of that stuff is interesting for 20 minutes (not enough to support a restaurant chain). And then what?

Well, then you have to do attractions based on movies and shows. Those can be good, but if you put them in a studio setting, it looks like crap. Studios are comprised of large, uninteresting, featureless, rectangular buildings, which makes bits of Universal and MGM authentic-looking, but completely dull.

A theme park is based on creating an immersive, seamless environment and a studio is all about breaking the mood and exposing the magic.

There's also the problem of the built-in obsolesence of every attraction, since each is tied to a specific era. Have kids ever heard of The Twilight Zone...or Aerosmith, for that matter? Additionally, the movie studio theme ran dry so quickly that MGM had to include television shows and music (!), in ever-decreasingly relevant ways.

Pirates and the Mansion are timeless (although Johnny Depp is not). Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain are timeless. Animated films tend to remain fresh for the new generations (excluding those filled with endless pop culture references for the purposes of entertaining cynical adults), but the vast majority of other movies don't hold up.

So, anyway, you can hardly blame the Studios for being stripmalls with rides, but you can blame people for building the parks in the first place (with the exception of Universal Hollywood, which is the only studios park that actually makes sense and doesn't require an extra effort to shoot bogus programming on-site).

Changing adventureland is not a good idea. Leave it as it is.

It doesn't sound like the best idea to me... I love adventure land. I doubt they will do anything like that, it seems like a huge project closing an entire land. They are more into doing one attraction at a time.

I think it's important to remember that rumors are rumors... it's just as possible that Disney is indeed NOT "throwing [this] idea around" as it is they are. It may have come from some guy in his bathrobe sitting in an apartment with nothing interesting to write, and not from a famed Blue Sky session.

I understand that people have lost their love to adventureland. It really hasn't been updated in some time. I mean, come on, adding Sparrow to POTC is far from updating the area.

I think changing adventureland would be a bad idea. Now, updating it and adding to it would be a different story. You all have some good ideas on updating. If only the Imagineers listened to our pleas. I don't know how much room there is add rides or attractions, but updating what they have wouldn't be a bad idea. Adventureland is suppose to be a fun area where the adventures are around every corner! Wow do I sound like a comercial.

Remember though, don't hate against updating or changing. Participate. Disney said, "Disney would never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world".

The problem is, I think that in the world of corporate sponsors, big wigs, and ensuring yourself in the financial world, the Imagineers have lost their "imagination".

Excellent point.

I'm not sure if this is on topic or not, but we are talking about ideas, so let's throw it in here. Does Disney use Six Sigma? I've been reading a bit about it lately and how it's good for streamlining and generally bad for imagination.

Another quick side note. I wouldn't mind if they altered the new Tiki Room. It's as cheesy as the original, without the charm.
