Really from a standpoint about what the parks and lands are supposed to be, the concept behind MK's Tomorrowland works very well. I'll say again what doesn't fit, or needs major rehauls is Laugh Floor and I realized the Tomorrowland Speedway. Even though some don't like Stitch, it works very well within the theme of it being a sort of fantasy tomorrow space port. If it went more the route of the original Tomorrowland concept from Disneyland of always looking to the real future we'd have a mini-Epcot when the real Epcot is right around the corner.
Now Disneyland's can keep that idea, and though I think Innoventions needs some major help, that really grounds that whole area as being a look at tomorrow and the fantasy tomorrow. What really needs to happen in Disneyland is a decision on if they're going for the looking to the future approach or the fantasy tomorrow.
And I have to re-iterate with others that Meet the Robinsons would be a terrific fit in either version. Although to have the T-Rex minion chase you in Countdown to Extinction (which I will always call it that) would be a very fun addition. Or perhaps not.

I think the main two bad parts about making so many attractions based off of movies, is one, The park loses its identity, "Pixarland", and two, people who don't see these movies will be lost. We all know what an Alien is, EG. X-S Alien encounters, but if someone does not see the stitch movies, they will be kinda lost.

You know, I really have to bring up and ask, what is so bad about Pixar characters being in a park, in various lands? They are Disney-Pixar. True Pixar characters would be something based on Geri from Geri's Game or the birds from For the Birds. I like Woody as much as Aladdin, Atta as much as Mulan, and so forth. I'm glad that great characters like them have a place among other great characters.
(Here's my cartoon civil rights mode) Why are we segregating the Pixar characters so much? Shouldn't we say something about Muppets and Star Wars too? How about Indy? No! I think that Disney-Pixar characters should have an equal place among their brothers and sisters from the Disney Studios!

Lets just take a look at How Fast technology advances today as compared to 1973. if Disney hosted a Tommorowland that was truly advanced they would have to update it every year. who remembers when we had 20mb internal hard drives on the computer and thought...why would you need more? now my camera holds 4gb. my phone can access global positioning satallites, access the computer, play video's and games. oh yeah it also can call people.
Lets remember it started with a Mouse...a Cartoon Mouse and if Pixar is the Cartoon of tomorrow then its place in Tomorrowland is exactly where it belongs. personally i'd like to see Main Street go back to the way it was with individual stores like the magic shop etc. instead of a mass department store feel. but i'm just tossing that in to avoid another topic to rant on..laugh

Well put! I didn't think about it, but Pixar characters are the cartoons of tomorrow, as more cartoons are going CG. I'm not saying that hand-drawn should end, I'm a huge fan of that cartoon genre, but perhaps Pixar does have more of a place in Tomorrowland than we thought.Croaker wrote: Lets remember it started with a Mouse...a Cartoon Mouse and if Pixar is the Cartoon of tomorrow then its place in Tomorrowland is exactly where it belongs.
And my previous rant was hopefully coming across as a sarcastic way of what I think about Disney cartoons and theme parks.

I have to agree with this thread. I don't think they should get rid of MILF (my mom actually was selected to participate and had a great time) but I think it should be moved to another park, say MGM, which I don't think has enough rides/attractions and Monsters, Inc. fits in more with MGM themeing.
I don't know about others, but the other three parks take a whole day (or at least operating hours) to go through and MGM seems to be a half-day park for me.

I think the main problem with all the Pixar being integrated into the parks is simply this: it's too much too soon. in the past 10 years, there has been at least 5 new attractions (rides), or areas (like restaurants) themed to or featuring Pixar characters. And I know of at least 1 more that's in the works as we speak. Pixar has even replaced elements in a classic attraction that really didn't need that kind of updating.
As Uncle Walt once said (at least for WDW) "We have enough room to build anything our imagineers can think up." (or something along those lines, quote may not be exact). They shouldn't HAVE to replace anything at WDW. If anything, UPDATE. change the movie, change out the animatronics for the next generation, change the speakers and lighting to give the attraction a new feel... no need to replace. They have enough room there to build at least 3 new gates, and still keep enough land for a wildlife reserve...

I don't think the true argument is the fact they are using Pixar characters, is just the type of rides they are placing in tomorrowland. Is it true all the new rides are based of Pixar characters, yes, and untill Disney bought them out, I was sketchy on their use. Now that they own then I have less of an issue with it.
I just feel they have distorted the theme. Its not a true tomorrowland. I don't feel that technology moves to fast for them to keep the theme. The imagineers just need to be creative in there use of the technology. If its a good well designed ride, it will be able to hold up. A good example is the Carousel of Progress. Its not new by any means, but with subtle adjustments it still fits in the theme, and is a great ride.

Great idea... really, I'm not kidding. I get the overkill with Pixar, but Cars is actually appropriate for Autopia. Autopia in general is no longer right for Futureworld, so if its staying then Cars makes sense.Croaker wrote:some one please slap me.I have to agree with this thread. back on subject....
i guess the question is ...when will autotopia become CARS? laugh

I hate this mentality, it seems to mostly come from parents. This completely goes against what Walt said. The parks are supposed to be for "Children of All Ages". Disney has lost it's sight on what made the parks special.casrin wrote:After all, little kiddies DO adore those characters even if we adults aren't so hot for them. And its the little kiddies who talk their parents into buying tie-in merchandise...
Sure, I think some of the attractions are great, but the argument is that they don't belong in Tomorrowland. We should call it Fantaspaceland. Like js3901 said, there have been too many Pixar attractions. Where's the creativity and originality? Disney is only picking these because they are popular right now. Where are the Haunted Mansion's and POTC's which were so well detailed and themed they are timeless?slotofkit wrote:(Here's my cartoon civil rights mode) Why are we segregating the Pixar characters so much? I'm with JS here... They are flooding the parks and pulling out perfectly good rides. Timekeeper fit great, Monsters has nothing to do with the future.
As for Pixar/CG being the future of cartoons [and that is questionable as some are going back to hand drawn from the sounds of it] that is fine but remember those are movies - and last I checked there is already a whole park dedicated to the movies last I checked... Adventureland or Frontierland aren't filled with cartoons so Tomorrowland shouldn't be either.
Keep in mind part of this is also about bumming off movies rather than using standalone innovative rides like Space Mountain or Timekeeper or the TTA. Some use of movie tie-ins is good [Buzz, Star Tours in DL, even the subs] but not every ride has to come from a movie...

I have to argue with the idea that it's all trying to do movie tie-ins and making bucks off of merchandising. I have a couple friends in Imagineering and they love Disney in general, but love to use characters that they like. They haven't worked on some of these attractions specifically, but they like to expand the world of the characters because people like them so much.
What if they made an attraction starring Mickey? Are we going to greatly complain about that? I think we won't if they make a great experience with a great story. The plus is that we get to see characters we like in a new adventure. I've been glad that they have a new group of characters to work with.
