It does disappear, but that Humidity will definitely kill you. The best days are still those overcast/light misty days.

Depending on where you are, when the rain does come down where do you hide out? I mean do you all automatically hit a ride or do you head off to a particular place to eat or store? Just curious.

I always go in August, so the weather is naturally a little different. What I usually experience is that It is fine and sunny and humid all day and around 1 it rains. When it rains, it rains fast and hard. By three its sunny again and the rain actually helps to clear out the humidity so it feels better outside. I would wear ponchos if you want to get everything done. I go multiple times a year so I usually just hop into starlight cafe or a store or a similar restaurant and wait it out. However, if you are taking a short trip (less than a week), you will need that two hours or so a day to get in rides...so ponchos are a good investment. Try going to your local dollar store and bring them with you. They work just as well and if you try to buy them in Disney when it is raining they are 2 dollars more than when it isn't.

As long as it doesn't affect the rides, I really don't mind the rain. I would rather have that than a beaming sun with miserable humidity at 95 degrees.

Yes I've done all those things.

Rarely do you have enough time to "pick" your place. Normal rain in Florida in the summer is "Oh look I feel some rain drops" you can either move to cover, or discuss it and get drenched.

When I feel the first few rain drops I move the group to the nearest cover.

This has backfired on me before. One time the chosen cover was Big Thunder Mountain. We got in the train just in time to be driven out into a SHEET of water.

If I'm at Animal Kingdom, time for the river ride! You're getting wet either way.
Last time it hit us at MGM, we headed for RnRc as the line queue was covered and the ride was indoors. (obviously).

If you get stuck and have to buy an umbrella, at least Disney doesn't gouge you. As I remember, their mickey umbrellas were reasonably-priced. I think I have two, which shows you how prepared I am.

Ponchos are the way to go, especially if you re-use them from previous trips.

Even though the one I have is when they made the ugly yellow ones compared to the clear ones they use now.

I know what poncho you're talking about! They may be making a return trip this July

Last trip, I wore the ugly yellow one while my girlfriend's family all wore the clear plastic ones. Well their clear plastic ones, 2 of them broke on the cover lol

We use our disney ponchos all the time! They're great for giving the dog a bath, or giving him a walk in the rain!

If they are the typical Florida rain showers, it gives you a chance to perhaps go back to the resorts and chill out with a nap.

A typical Central Florida Rain Shower, and you won't have time to make it back to the resort before it's over. In most cases you won't beable to make it out of the park.

I remember one time I was going between classes in Gainesville. It was raining cats and dogs, big heavy rain drops. I was in one building with some friends, and had to make it to another building for a class.

My friends, who where is the same class where like it's raining too hard. I had some reason I need to be there for the start of the class. So I braved the rain. My friends came strolling into class about 2 minutes after it started. dry as a bone. The rain stopped right after I got to the build the class was in.

This is an interesting thread...

We've been to WDW many times, and during different times of the year. So, we know all about the rain.

What interests me about this thread is the differing opinions on ponchos.

Here's our take: we buy the really cheap $1 emergency ponchos from Wal-Mart before our trip. We each keep one in our fanny pack. If it starts to rain, then it is up to each of us to decide whether or not we want to put on the raincoat. If we use it, and then the weather clears up, we usually throw it away (it was only $1).

My wife really surprises me, because she's usually the last one to decide that it is raining hard enough to use her poncho. Our kids (DD7 & DS13) are always the first.
