No joke!! It's comming down!! It's going to look more like Walts dream again...AMEN!!!!!!!Oh, I hope this is not a cruel joke. I just hope they then just leave it alone. Surely they don't think that they have to put up something else to "replace" it.

the thing is, Epcot now (even in 1982) is nothing like Walt's dream of Epcot. Walt's version of Epcot was an actual city where people lived, worked, and played.Jacca5660 wrote:No joke!! back on topic, I hope the wand comes down soon. I want to be able to take a clean picture when I take the Segway tour again

This is precisely one of the reasons I don't care much about the wand, even though I agree with the consensus that it obviously sucks. It's coming down one way or another, no matter what, and everyone will cheer and think happy thoughts about Disney doing the right thing, but if they were actually doing it for the right reasons, it'd be gone by now.Jacca5660 wrote:I've heard, one of the reasons Disney wants it down is because it's expensive to maintain.
They don't deserve a gold star for accidentally doing the right thing because they're cheap.
Kind of like, "Hooray, they shut down the puppy torture attraction because it cost too much to keep feeding the little barkers!"

Good point indeed Captain! Although it's coming down it is for the wrong reasons. So it's kind of fearful what idiotic idea these "imagineers" might come up with next. They obviously don't think the wand was a bad idea since they are taking it down due to maintainence issues, not because of the stupid idea issue.

Let's just hope that the wand doesn't come down, only to be replaced by a giant set of mouse ears.
I'll save my celebration until it actually happens.

SE is a great landmark in itself without the wand or anything else to replace it. It first went up in 2000 when EPCOT was the featured park of the millinium and it said "2000". That would have been fine for one year i guess, but did we really need to be told we were in EPCOT with that thing attached to SE?
I hope this rumor is right and the wand is down before we go on our next scheduled trip to WDW in December!

so, has anyone got a link to a press release? or are we basing all of this on what a "reliable friend" said?
Not to knock your resources...but Disney has a tendancy to say its going to do something and get all the way to announcing it to the public, and pulling the project before they ever tell the media.

Not the wand oh noes I love it.....
HHAA just kidding
It so should go, it never belonged there. Though I agree it was more tolerable then the hat.
BUT... if they are only taking it down because of the maintenance costs, shame on Disney. They should be taking it down because it doesn't belong there. I don't like the logic that if its expensive to maintain they want to can it. Whats next to feel the budget axe? Walt never cut quantity to save money, Disney under Eisner has seemed to forget that. Since its the dumb wand, it works in our benefit, but I think its a bad reason for its removal.

Oh, I had to make sure my first post was in a "wand" thread. This must be the most discussed topic in message forum land.
We go in July. If that thing is gone, that would be super. It does detract from the balanced look and feel of Future World. I think if it is coming down, there's maintenance costs (let's be clear, not a lot seems to be invested in non-sponsored attractions), so when AT&T pulled out, maybe the costs started to be a bit mucn and Siemens said - not on our watch. Whatever the reason, if its gone great.
Cleaning up Epcot sounds like a great plan. The hat doesn't bother me so much. It seems to fit the MGM brand. Sorcerer Mickey has no place in Epcot is the problem.
