I am totally against Fastpasses for all rides. It ruins the spontenaety of the Parks. My brother and I are all about the way things were back in the day. Folks would get into a line a stand there and deal with how long it was or they would just come back at a later time to get in line. Now people want to schedule their entire day at the parks to get to all the rides they want. One of my co-workers just went down to WDW back in April and she wanted to do everything and was asking me when she should schedule this and that. I basically told her I go down there and just walk around til I see something I feel like doing. I may not get on all the rides they have but I get to enjoy my relaxing vacation. If you schedule things you are stressing about if you are on time or if you have enough time to do this or that, and that is not what Disney should be about.
This is a non issue for me as I never go during busy times. However, I totally agree with you regarding just doing things the way they were "back in the day". As a kid my parents took me when they could and that was normally in the busy summer periods. We would wait in line like everyone else and the time really passed quickly having the whole family there to talk to. We had some great conversations and just really had a lot of fun being together on vacation which is what it is all about rather than trying to "ride everything" humanly possible.

I couldn't disagree more. I love the fast pass system. The way you make it sound, is like you have an appointment to be on a ride. It gives you a good size window to be at a ride. Why not be a little more efficient with your time?? We don't have a tight intimacy, but if we don't have to be in a Que for 45 minutes or better, why wait that long? Some of us don't want to wander the parks until we see something we might want to ride. A lot of us have our favorites and want to ride them as many times as we can. Fast pass makes this possible.

Your right we all have favorites, but you learn when the best times are to go on those and you can ride them as many times as you want. Like in Disneyland if I want to ride BLY:AB I know the best time is between 11pm and midnight, or POTC and HM is best during Fantasmic. In WDW I know that some of the best times to ride many of the rides is during the Parades and Fireworks. That is my version of Fastpass learning the best times. If the fastpasses didn't have a time written on it I would be a little less upset about the things being there, but then again people would abuse it and it would basically be another stand by line.

The wait times wouldn't be as crazy high if fastpass wasn't holding up the stand by lines. The perfect example was already given in the Haunted Mansion reference. And Cheshy is right about the Soarin', BTM, SM, and M:S lines, they would go a lot faster without the CM's having to hold the line up to let the Fastpass people in. And that time stamped on the ticket, most people show up at the start time on the pass. And one hour passes by very quickly in the parks and if you miss the time on the ticket guess what.....your standing in the stand by line with an expired Fastpass.

Actually, I think I remember Dr. talking about his feelings for the FP before the three of us squeezed into a doombuggy on HM.

But if I ALSO remember correctly.. Dr. you don't DO a lot of the rides that NEED fast passes... such as the RNR or SM.

True on all counts. But JS remember that that trip was your trip I was just along for the ride and the picture taking. And yes knedeau I don't do roller coasters, I love them but my body doesn't love me for doing that type of ride. I black out on most rides that raise the G level, I remember on time at another park I blacked out and got a severe case of whiplash that left me in one of those neck brace thingy's. Although I can say that I rode M:S back when it was 2G's before they brought it down. I think I was somewhat alright on M:S because it was an enclosed cockpit, I could get air easily. And I seem to be fine on test track, even though I did get a little light headed on it.

hmm, maybe I wasn't paying attention at that point. I was just enjoying the atmosphere and the pleasure of the company at the time...

Yeah thats why I didn't complain, like I said it was your trip dude, I didn't want to bring you down or anything. Heck I even help get you a couple of FP's. You guys missed it, we got down there and then I remembered that it was my birthday the day we got down there, I forgot my own birthday  I do that a lot. I remembered will we where doing the segway tour, we found out you get things for having a birthday there so we went to guest services and got a nifty fast pass for soarin'. hahaha I can't believe I forgot about that

FPs can be a great perk. You just have to plan out what you are going to do in advance. I used a couple guide books to help with when to get them and for what rides and it worked out great.

Looks like I'm in the minority...

I agree with Ravenscroft for the most part. When you end up having to plan your trip around fastpasses it sort of takes away from the magic of just walking around doing what you want as you get to it. If everyone is doing just that, then there would be no need for fastpasses anyway. There's only a few select rides that I mentioned in my last post where the fastpast doesn't affect the wait time (for either line) or take away from theattraction experience. So basically here's my pros and cons in a nutshell:

pros
- Shorter wait for the ride(s) you use the fastpass on

cons
- longer standby lines for rides with fastpass
- more crowds on the walkways (see last post)
- missing queue details by bypassing the normal queue
- people end up planning the entire vacation around fastpasses to the point where they become psychotic about being in certain places at certain times (like my parents  )
- huge crowd-attracting fastpass distribution area in front of rides, making the entrances look unappealing (to me at least)

Fastpasses are evil
