I think some prizes are handed out by special Year of a Million Dreams cast members while some are not. My wife and I each got a pair of "ears" when entering the Conservation Station last November. They were being handed out by a pair of cast members wearing different uniforms than the rest of the CS staff. Our biggest surprise came just this past March when my wife, daughter and I got a limo ride from the Disney Magic Express area at the Orlando airport when we went to check in. That prize was given to us by one of the regular cast members at the Magical Express check in counter. Truly a dream ride to start our vacation

the Dream Squad are dressed just like you descibed the guy talking to you bdinger. light blue button down shirt, khaki slack or shorts (khaki or black color), and a shoulder bag. they tend to chat up guests who are sitting around and who look like they are waiting for someone to get off the ride. at least that's how it seemed when we went down in December

The only prizes we've won from the 1e6 dreams are via the mail-in. But we have won ears!

It really is a legit giveaway. There is no code word to say or not to say. It is completely random, (Not up to the squad members) when things are given away. When they are awaiting their next give away, they practice good guest service and just talk to people. So don't feel bad if you don't get something, but feel special if you do.

You won by mailing in postcards?! My mom has been doing that for awhile now with no success. She's getting a bit discouraged. How long did it take before you won? Any special tips?

We won a set of ears also!
We were coming out of the Rainforest Cafe beside Animal Kingdom...we exited through the back entrance by the gift shop... and as we went through the gate into AK, three cast members dressed in the blue shirts etc popped out and stopped us. One of them had a big dufflebag filled with ears and gave us each a pair :)

We are going to get ours "engraved" with our names, at the shop on Main Street.

No special tips except DO IT EVERY DAY.

Now with that said, things to remeber. They only do the mail in drawings once a month (On or about the 20th) for the preceeding month. So the drawing for January was around Feb 20. From then they have 55 days to notify you either by mail (aka a package) or phone.

So bottom line the prizes that were DELIVERED mid/late April where won in January (Feb 20 + 55 days, is April 16th.) Prizes for Feb go out on May 14th!

One intresting feature of the rules is basicly every entry gets you two. Because they batch the cards each day (cards they get on May 10th get tagged for prizes which the computer selected "mail-in" on May 10th.) But as you guys know the contest is 7 days a week, and USPS doesn't deliver on Sun or holidays. So what happens? Well the rules say the 6 days PRIOR are batched up and used for non-mail delivery days.

So if you send them cards Monday thru Saturday, you have 12 chances to win, 1 each day of the week and 6 on Sunday. (18 chances on the upcoming 3 day weekend.)

I've also been using home grown cards which have the front printed with FIM and Postnet (FIM is Facing Identification Mark, tells the computer which side has the address on it; Postnet is the barcode under the address so there are no routing mistakes.) Also it has the fill in blanks on the back lengthwise so the computer is less likly to choose that address. (Although with the FIM-A marking it never should.)

In THEORY you can only send in one card per day. But a household of 5 could send in 5 per day. There is no once per day per household. The rules say once per day per person.

I think it depends on how big a prize you win. If you win ears I doubt they will look hard at how many cards you sent in (it's really controled by the postmark on the card.) So you should be consistant about when and where you mail them.

jcodirewolf, you should stick that link in your signature. that way no matter if this thread gets buried for a month or two we will always have it and be able to use it. I don't always use the same computer.

I met a member of the Dream Patrol, and chatted with her. She said if you really want something go to the water parks. (this was last fall, I doubt it's true now.) She said her assignment was to give away 50 (as I recall) lanards at BB to the first 50 people down a speific slide, she said one kid got like 10. Because first several people didn't want them, and the park wasn't very busy. So one kid kept getting in line, and getting his lanard...

Who are these wacky people refusing free stuff!! Its Un-American!

When I was there in March we talked to a few Dream Patrol members and they told us they have had people refuse prizes. He told us they had 2 people refuse the night in the castle stay, and it went to the 3rd person they tried. The first one was a guy on a business trip with colleagues so he wasn't interested. Forgot the story on the second one, they ended up getting a family on the 3rd try.

3rd try???? I understand the first guy, but there can't be that many people there with the same situation.

Trust me if they ask me they will not have to find a second person to ask! :goofy:

Something else I've been told is apparently for SOME REASON people aren't clear that there is a contest going on. While refusing free stuff is clearly unamerican. People are suspect of things that seem to be too good, "Hey I'm on vacation, I don't want to blow 2 hours on a Timeshare talk to get a free night at some dive."

It's one thing for someone to hand you some ears, or a lanyard. But to offer you "free" night stay.

The other bit is if you read how the castle stay is given out, they don't really tell you much of anything till they make sure they can give it to you. They "ask" you to come with them, and "ask" you some questions about residency and if you are related to a CM, all the quick stuff which may be too much for some people.
