The average daily precipitation for Orlando throughout June (actually, throughout the whole summer) is only about 0.2 inches a day, mostly in those afternoon showers and thunderstorms like broncoflyer said. The best time for convection in the area (er.. for the thunderstorms/showers to start) is around 4 pm, when there's been enough heating for the clouds to get nice and 'juicy'. So I'd just consider that in my plans for the day and expect a shower between about 4 and 6 pm. :)

I also second (third, fourth?) the idea that the ponchos aren't worth it. I only bought one once when we were there in September and a tropical storm was wandering overhead. I think I wore it all of a few hours before I decided I preferred to get rained on than be boiled to death inside of it.

I lived in Florida for 10 years. You learn to deal with the rain storms. As others have said, Central Florida gets a rain storm almost every day. The storms form in the morning over the gulf and move toward the Atlantic.

I carry a backpack cover so I can keep my camera gear dry. But I know I'll just dry, keeping some extra socks, or wear watershoes.

To be honest, the rain never really hurt my trips to Disney. It's actually kinda nice to walk around the parks when there is a little bit of rain. But the downpours are another story. All the suggestions of jumping onto a ride or a place to hide out for a while are right. The heavy downpours can get nasty but they don't last long.

I have a simple motto I came up with today. Rain in Disney good, rain in my basement bad. I like it when it rains in Disney because I get to walk faster with no one around, I can get very far with people clamering for shelter.

The only suggestion I have is to gear aqua shoes or sandals on the afternoons that it looks like it will rain. They dry really quick so you don't have to worry about having wet socks on. Plus the light shower might actually cool you off.

Well rain isnt fun when it's busy. We were there on January 2nd and it rained and it sucked because the ponchos take up extra space in the pathways that we barely had enough room to move around.

From my experiences in the summer months just about every other year, as stated, it rains around noon time - but unlike a lot of the other posters I find that roughly 1/2 the time it is a heavy, albeit short, downpour for 20-45 minutes. As for ponchos or hiding out they're both options but I don't mind the soak down because I know an hour later it'll be hot and humid and I'll dry off quick and appreciate the extra cooling effect. The only thing I'd caution you on is getting soaked then going to a long, airconditioned attraction -especially theater shows like AA or Hall of Presidents. You'll freeze and you'll make your seat squishy which not only is uncomfortable for you but a very unpleasant and rather gross surprise for the next guest or two who happens to sit there as well. But take advantage of the rains, as evident from this thread alone it's a time when MANY guests go shopping or decide to go in for a meal and many attractions lines will begin to evaporate. There are exceptions though, some days it seems like EVERYONE jumps into a line when it starts raining, but that is a rarity.

Being a Native Floridian for my entire life, I can tell you that very rarely do we ever have an entire day be a complete wash out. Espically during the summer months, showers will come and go. Some lasting only about 1 minute or two.

However they can be very severe. Even though people hate the ponchos, they are really the easiest. When it rains in one of our summer showers, it RAINS. Umbrellas rarely work well. Just duck into a shop and wait it out for like 10 minutes and the sun will be back out soon.

It's florida. We are a wet state, but lately, the last few years have been very dry... Just keep an eye on the forecasts.

The state is almost surrounded by water and there are a number o lakes so it isn't uncommon for there to be a shower. But there has never been a "downpour" when we have been there. In fact I like the rainy days because it keeps the crowds down. u can get a lot more rides in. As for the ponchos we bought ours in 1996 on a day when it did rain (lightly) most of the day. If you dressed with light clothes on its not unbearably hot and I think its better to be dry then wet walking about the parks. we just pack the ponchos in a plastic grocery bag in the backpack so everything doesn't get wet if the sun does come out again. We have packed them six times since buying them and will pack them again when we go in December of this year.

We have a motto when we go to WDW.

If you don't like the weather wait a minute.

Most FL storms are short, bursts and don't really effect your time in the park. I've never had rain ruin my time in WDW.

it'll rain almost like clockwork sometime between 2 and 4 and last for a half hour to 45 minutes. ponchos are not necessary, they generally just make you really sweaty in the extreme humidity. I would suggest ponchos for kali, just to keep the water out of your clothes, that water is particularly smelly.

as evidenced by a group of people I went on Kali with, the ponchos do NOTHING to keep the water out of your clothes. a couple of other people have said the same thing on the boards here...

It isn't the rain you have to worry about. It's AFTER the rain. The humidity can kill you have the quick storms!

Sometimes I enjoy the quick shower because it's cool off the weather for a short bit but when it rains during your whole time, that really sucks!

The problem with the rain is that most of the time humidity doesn't go down after the rain.
