And that is that the POTC films have been profitable.

IMDb estimates Haunted Mansion's budget at $90mil.

It's domestic box office was about $75.8mil
UK b.o. was 8 mil pounds
Euro b.o. was about 9.6 mil Euro.
There was a Haunted Mansion movie? Must have missed that one, apparently like most other people.

I don't feel entitled to anything. I bought the vacation, I bought the camera and heck when I did the Keys to Kingdom tour our guide told us we could take pictures on the ride anyway. Do you really think it's that big a deal to take a picture of something you love when it's not bothering anyone else? I have made it very clear that I don't take flash pictures on the dark rides when other people are around. Honestly, I wont ever do it again because now that I have the ones I want there is no reason to do it again.

Yea I posted a while back saying I was hoping the upgrade would include what ever they need to do so they can swap in the Nightmare stuff.

I've never been to DL, so I've only ever heard the soundtrack.

so I'm guessing it'll be finished just in time for the not so scary halloween party? I think my friend would love to see it.

I agree. After working those attractions where we are told to tell kids not to skate on the shoes, or not to take flash photography, or any number of other things, they still do it anyway. It's a difficult proposition to tell people what to do after they've just spent thousands of dollars on a visit, and frankly, it ruins "the magic".

However I agree that there are certain situations where safety is a concern. The Festival of the Lion King is a great example. Kids come in on those skates but don't see the float tracks in the concrete and dive head first, or the Greeter area at Mission:Space. We never could get the drainage fixed, and people of all ages would slip on it if it was raining.

I don't mean to reopen this can of worms, but I am actually an ex-Keys to the Kingdom Tour Guide and worked as a trainer in Magic Kingdom Tours for two years. What was your tour guide's name? One of the first things we taught all the new guides is NEVER deviate from park rules while conducting the tours in onstage areas or while riding the attractions. Although you may not feel it was a "big deal," by telling you it was okay to breach the operational guidelines for that attraction, the tour guide was in violation of one of the golden rules of MK Tours.

Also, unless tours have changed drastically since 2003, don't all the tour guests board the attraction as a group? My point is, unless you were the only guests on the tour, there WERE other guests around while you riding the attraction. That being said, a large part of the Haunted Mansion segment of the tour is revealing the tricks and secrets of the attraction, so I don't think any of the tour guests would have actually minded catching a glimpse of the inner workings with your camera's flash. So you're right: no harm, no foul.

This is a debate that will surely continue long after I put in my two cents. However, I've always felt if I'm visiting ANYWHERE where I'm a guest, and I'm told not to do something, the courteous thing is to obey the directive. Is it really hurting anyone to take flash pictures in a dark ride? No, but what suffers is the magic that Disney has worked so hard to create. I am a lover of the Disney parks and of Disney history, and I just respect that heritage too much to break the rules.

Sorry, I did not explain the situation very well. The Keys tour was not the occasion that the pictures were taken so although I do recall being told it was okay to take some pictures I did not take any because I already had some of the HM. You are right, we did board together and I was listening to what the guide said so it was not a picture taking opportunity anyway. Regarding our guide, I would rather not mention the name in the event that he/she did do something wrong in telling us that. I would hate for you to go snooping and get someone in trouble that really made our vacation special. The guide was great and I would not hesitate to do the tour with this person again or to recommend this guide to family or friends taking the tour. Again, NO PICTURES were taken while on the Keys tour. I was simply siting the occasion of the tour as a time when we were told it was okay to take pictures but didn't. I'm seriously thinking of editing all of my posts in this thread and removing the bride picture from the HM since it has caused so much controversy. Trust me, you wont find a much better advocate of the "Disney magic" than me and I understand the rules. As I have maintained all along, when I took pictures like this it was while the ride was virtually empty.

I certainly understand your situation, GhostHost, and I'm sure no one here in our forums meant to harass you about those pictures. There are just a lot of us here who feel like guardians of the Disney Magic, and we care deeply about preserving that heritage.

Regarding the Keys Tour, I'm so glad you had a good experience! Giving that tour was definitely one of the most fun parts of my job in Guest Relations. I was always very proud of the Cast Members I trained in that role, as it's not an easy thing to provide a five hour interactive experience that brings new knowledge to even the most die hard Disney fans.

You certainly seem to understand the passion behind this issue, and I hope you can see both sides of the debate. Please don't remove your posted photos, as we love seeing detailed shots of any attraction on this site, and we're appreciative of your contributions.

To get this forum back on track: I'm upset the Mansion is undergoing refurbishment so early in the season, because I'm bringing my son to WDW for his first trip in June. Oh well! Just another excuse to go back.

Well, looks like I wont be affected by the refurb as I wont be making it to WDW this year. Poor me... :(

I'm going at the end of August, and although I'm not holding my breath, I'm hoping that they might have a soft opening when we're there. I wanted to see my nephew experience one of my favorite rides! :)

one can only guess as to what they're going to be doing to it. Are they gonna add Eddie Murphy to the attraction, as they did Johnny Depp with POTC? juuuust kidding....atleast I hope I am wrong.
LOL!

Wow, it sounds like the upgrades will be a good thing then. I haven't been there since 2000 and apparently its really degraded since then.

I decided to go and see the Haunted Mansion movie when it came out and was greatly disappointed. I should have assumed that it would have been a comedy since it had Eddie Murphy in it.
