a Disney Dollar (as I understand it) is kind of like a gift certificate, of sorts. You buy the Disney Dollars and can use them at the parks/disney store to buy stuff. good for kids as they have the characters faces and things on them.
I could be wrong (at least in part). anyone who has used the Disney Dollars, any insight?

Basically you can swap "real" dollars for Disney dollars, and use them as currency in the parks as you would normal dollars.
You'll normally get change from them in normal dollars, although you can request your change to be in Disney Dollars if the store/cart/whatever has enough of them to do so (nobody ever requested that from me, though)
Andy. Just me.

Technically, you are not supposed to be able to get Disney Dollars as change from a location that does not normally give them out (such as a front desk of a hotel or guest relations). CM's may do it on occasion (esp. if a guest is especially forceful about it), but it shouldn't be done.
They're great for kids because it's like having real money that they can then put towards souvenirs at the parks, rather than carrying around real cash or having to deal with a gift card.

Anybody seen the new Pirates dollars? There's one for each film, with a different skull on the front and ship on the back for each. They look pretty cool. Check them out here-

I found a few $1 Disney dollars in some things I was throwing away. They were probably like 20 years old. I will probably keep them just for memories sake.
