Disney Photo Pass... is this new?

I've been to Disneyland twice this week and just noticed today that there is a program called "Disney Photo Pass." If you are as naive to subtle changes as I am, here's how it works; instead of 10 different photographers in the park handing you 100 pieces of paper for all the photos they take of you, which by the way you probably have no intention of buying for 16.95 each, they now hand you a plastic card that all of them scan before photographing you. You can go online, and at your convenience, view, edit, purchase prints to your liking. Is this something that just started, or have I just been dodging the Disney photographers so long I failed to miss something new?

They've had this at WDW for a while now. Not sure exactly when it started, but I knew about it in at least October 2006, and we used it in December. Can't say anything about DLR as never been there before.

DLR started introducing it during this past Mickey's Halloween Treat. It was mighty interesting. It hung around DCA for about a month to train the photographers, then they introduced it at DL too.

It's an interesting process, I like the idea of being able to buy the photos at home later instead of being distracted by the mad crush of people at the end of the night on main street.

We got the disney photopass when we were in WDW. You can use it at ANY of the parks. It's a great system. You get your pictures taken for free and can view them online. Though a CD of all the images is incredibly expensive, in fact all the images are expensive.

the images themselves (a 5"X7") are $12.95 each, plus a few dollars for "shipping", but when you book a MYW package and stay on Disney property, you get one print for free (includes the shipping). This was true in at least 06, and I don;t think much changed in 07

The high prices for the pics are still there it seems, but at least you can do it with the convenience of being at home. I think that would actually cause people to buy less. Point being, you are all in the hype of the moment when you're at the park, then you get home days(or hours) later and after you wind down, decide all you needed was a quick glimpse and realize you have 20 other pictures exactly the same!

We spent the 100 bucks for the entire CD because we wanted to print out several pitcures. If everybody pitches in from your trip (we had several different familes go) it comes out less expensive.

that's not a bad idea... just have to milk it to make it worth it. But for one or two pics, I'm thinking I'm better off just handing my camera over to the photographer.

They let you edit online? You know how easy it is for people to steal photos that way? Even if they let you view the prints, there's a way to get them. Flash player, photo editor, whatever. It can be done.

they're not that bad when viewed online (IMHO). and they're easier to get than having to go through flash player ot anything else. All you need to do is press CTRL-Print Screen, and paste it into MS Paint (or similar program). Then just crop out the parts of the window you don't want. I did all 4 of the photos I posted in the "Official East Coast meetup" thread (in the Trip Planning and Reports forum) that way. A little smaller, but got them for free...

The images are not print quality. In fact, the resolution of their online versions is quite low. We made a photo album so we wanted print quality pictures. That's why we bought them.

that's what I was thinking... just pack on as many pictures as you can and buy the cd
