Does Star Tours make Star Wars "Disney"?
I want to know what you all think about Star Wars being part of Disney theme parks. Does having Star Tours in Disney parks qualify Star Wars as "Disney"?
This ones for you Sub.

I don't think it does. at least not in full. same thing with Indiana Jones. I don't feel either are disney. The themes in the queues may be Disney, and the films/shows/attraction may have been made for disney. But the overall universe of these movies is not Disney in any way

I'm confused about the heavy co-mingling of Star Wars and Disney. Mixed rides, shows, apparel, toys, Star Wars weekends, Mickey with a lightsaber? I'd say it is part of the family. Maybe more of a 2nd cousin that you're very close with, but still linked. As for the overall universe, what about Pixar? Besides the fact that they are both animated, the Pixar characters and Fab Five aren't really in the same universe either, does that make them any less Disney? Maybe, maybe not. Just like Epcot is about bringing all these wonderful nationalities together, I think Disney brings all these so called "universe's" together... into a universe called "Disney."

Star Wars and Indiana Jones are licensed to Disney from George Lucas for use in the parks. Lucas felt Disney can do the best job with the franchises in terms of making attractions out of them but Star Wars is not owned by Disney.

When I think of Disney I don't think of Star Wars and when I think of Star Wars I don't think of Disney. I just think of Star Tours as it's own attraction with Disney making some moola in the store.

It's not "Disney" per se, but I couldn't vote "no" in this poll because I don't think it means Lucas has to "get [his] own theme park"
However, the Disney Theme Parks are the theme park homes for the Star Wars brand... which is why MGM hosts Star Wars Weekend and Disneyland has the Jedi Training Academy and such.

Ok, I take back the whole "get his own theme park,"comment. As far as the co-mingling of the two, what I meant was that the Star Wars franchise could fit very well as part of the Disney Universe.spaulo wrote:It's not "Disney" per se, but I couldn't vote "no" in this poll because I don't think it means Lucas has to "get [his] own theme park"
And for,
I do think of Disneyland... more like, when I think of MGM Studios, I think of Star Wars because of the whole Star Wars theme and events going on around Star Tours. Since it has been around so long I couldn't think of losing Star Tours without some other Star Wars themed ride taking it's place. Therefore, I believe Star Wars is now a part of Disney, through the parks anyways.subsonic wrote:When I think of Disney I don't think of Star Wars and when I think of Star Wars I don't think of Disney. All good points, however my 7yo, who is a HUGE Star Wars fan, totally associates Star Wars with Disney because of Star Tours and the Disney-themed SW merchandise (he has a Jedi Mickey that he loves). The characters are even in the Stars and Motorcars parade alongside Disney characters. To him, Star Wars is part of Disney.
Can't get back to WDW soon enought, but alas, no immediate plans...
This is interesting. Maybe it's because older people like me (30's) grew up with Star Wars but children who have hit up Star Tours at the parks associate it with Disney.jeremyleo wrote:All good points, however my 7yo, who is a HUGE Star Wars fan, totally associates Star Wars with Disney... It's strange to think that to younger people The Trilogy is Lord of the Rings and not Star Wars.

Interresting, as well, that my 7yo also asks when there'll be more Star Wars rides at Disney...subsonic wrote:This is interesting. Maybe it's because older people like me (30's) grew up with Star Wars but children who have hit up Star Tours at the parks associate it with Disney.

Not that I would mind that in the least, myself. As mentioned by others, Disney is certainly the right place to do Lucas and Star Wars justice.

Yes I totally agree with you, Star Wars is the original trilogy.subsonic wrote:It's strange to think that to younger people The Trilogy is Lord of the Rings and not Star Wars.
Plus I think Lucas was very valid in choosing Disney, because he needed someone who would put in the same quality as he does with his movies.

They haven't changed it because they don't need to. The lines are still plenty long. When I worked the turnstile position at Star Tours, it's the position that directs you to which Star Speeder you'll be riding, people would ask, "When are they going to change the movie?" I would reply, "When you don't wait 30 minutes in line."weluvmovies.com wrote:I wouldn't mind them changing up the Star Tours flight plan once in a while... travel to a different part of space perhaps?
