David Beckham comes to the USA
One of the greatest footballers in the world is coming to Los Angeles to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy. What do you people think of it? I think it is pretty darn awesome!!

I'm glad he's coming to the USA, as I'm a huge football fan, but I don't know if Becks really qualifies as "greatest." I read quite a bit about football and listen to BBC radio a lot, and the perception in the UK is that he is very good at doing a couple of things, but as an all-around player he is not great; he's also getting pretty old. Nevertheless, he does bring a lot of excitement to the game, and hopefully will be a good ambassador for football.
Unfortunately, the closest MLS team is in Chicago, so I probably don't stand much of a chance of getting to see him play. We once went to an exposition match between ManU and Bayern, but Beckham didn't play (a lot of the star players didn't; why risk injury in a match that doesn't count?).
Anyway, I'm all in favor of anything that builds up football (soccer) in the U.S., as I really don't like many other sports.

don't care... lol
Sry no offense just think soccer is boring, but I do feel for your sport. As an avid hockey fan, I understand the pain.

I used to be serious about watching the MLS, and living in Orange County, my "home" team was the Los Angeles Galaxy. I stopped watching years ago, because it was simply a lot more boring than international soccer. I think it is important to note that when David Beckham and England came over and played the Galaxy, the Home Depot Center (field where the Galaxy play) was SOLD OUT.
With the increasing latino population contributing to the rise in MLS match attendance, this move may have a major impact. The Galaxy saw a huge boost in season ticket sales, and they oversold for Beckham's tentative debut, people bought tickets to Beckham's alleged first start!
There have been more rumors that even stars like Luis Figo and Ronaldo could possibly play here. Is there credibility to those rumors? Possibly not, but imagine two more international legends playing in the MLS. I see this as the only way for the MLS to be thrust into popularity amongst Americans.

Well, if MLS becomes the "seniors circuit" for international stars, then expect to see Figo and Ronaldo real quick.
Becks is swell and all... his corners are legendary... but I long for the day when the MLS will have a general level of play worth watching.
That, or American sports channels need to start playing Man U matches. Nothing quite like seeing Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo try and share the pitch

I think that Beckham will make Soccer more popular here in the states. It was a good move on the MLS's part!rdeacon wrote:Ummm I have to say with the 90% of the rest of America....

Or it could be that Posh told Becks that she wanted to live in LA with all the stars.
I don't know, either way I will still be watching premiership on Dish network. I didn't stop watching it even when he went to Madrid.

Who's your side? I'm a United supporter, myself... mainly because you can listen to match audio live on their site for free, and before I discovered I actually have Fox Soccer Channel, that was the only way I could pay attention to the Premiership. Plus I think Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo... for entirely different reasons... are the two most stellar players in the world (ok, that Ronaldinho guy is pretty good too)Dr. Ravenscroft wrote:I don't know, either way I will still be watching premiership on Dish network

It depends on who is playing. Most of the time I am a underdogger. I like the teams that shouldn't have a chance to win but do. But if I have to pick a team I would have to say Chelsea otherwise my brother will kill me. Even though I don't really support them (as I feel knife blade poking me).spaulo wrote:Who's your side? The other day I was watching Sheffield tie Portsmouth That was a good one. I love the low scoring affairs.

Bah, I watched that match at Emirates... United just sat too quiet on a 1 goal lead... Arsenal won't have that kind of luck against the Red Devils again, and besides... United still have 6 points on Chelsea and what, 17 on your Gunners? At this rate you'll have to beat the Scousers just to make the Champions League, while United walks with the League Cup.
