I suggest wood distributors sites, just google for exotic woods and sample, and you'll find sites like http://www.woodworking.org/WC/woodsampler.html .

Or you can just go take photos of your backyard fence, or a neighbors shed, which has worked for me in the past.

Dude, that's an awesome link for wood textures. Added to my delicious. :)

Also, there's photoshop tutorials galore on the web, they include making wood.

I would say either the Kentucky Coffeetree:

or the Elm

would look nice for a frontierland theme, they are bright and you can see the grains quite well.
