It's completely stupid. That's like going to Vegas to visit the Effel Tower at the Paris hotel. DCA was created with that theme with the intention of, "If they see it here, they won't want to go to the real places". Disneyland has always suffered shorter visits to tourists because they also visit other places. The management during the time was completely selfish thinking that guests are that naive.

Although I'm from clear across the country, I really enjoy DCA. I think it would be downright odd to have a California-themed park in Florida, for example.

It's true that DCA wouldn't work outside of California, the problem is it doesn't work in California either. It's blaspheming to compare the Golden Gate Bridge at DCA to the actual Golden Gate, or Redwood Creek Challenge to King's Canyon or Yosemite. Bad idea on Disney's part.

More to the topic, my vote is no waterpark. What I would like to "sea" is a Disney Sea-type park. The park in Tokyo looks fantastic. I seem to recall talk of a Disney Sea park in Long Beach back when DCA was being discussed.

Oh yeah, and there should be official live internet cams within the current Park accessible through disneyland.com.

I always heard the persistent rumor was a "Westcot" in the LB area...

I thought Westcot was to be where DCA is currently. Either way, it seems the only place we'll be able to find Westcot is in our mind's eye.

Right. There were two competing plans, and Disney played Anaheim and Long Beach off each other. At the time (early '90's) Disney operated The Queen Mary/Spruce Goose attraction and drew up plans for DisneySea surrounding that property. I think Jim Hill has an article on it with an artist's rendition.

Concurrently, they designed a plan for "Westcot" in the former DL parking lot. The centerpiece of the park, if I remember right, was a golden version of Spaceship Earth (scaled down). Also, the pavilions would all circle this sphere which would sit in the middle of a small lagoon.

The coolest part that they could've kept was a peoplemover running from the parking structure to the central ticketing plaza.

Oh, and back on the original topic, I've always imagined something big going in where the ranch currently is (behind Big Thunder). I know there was an idea in the late '70's for Discovery Bay (or Discovery Cove?) with the Hyperion airship and the cool Winnie The Pooh hot air balloon ride. Obviously these will not be built but they still have some prime space I believe is underutilized.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.
