Refillable Mugs

For any of you that have been to the Polynesian lately, do you know if the refill mugs have been changed? My family is trying to save a bit of cash and bring the one back from last year. It has Mickey surfing and Minnie in a hammock.

As a side question, do you get the refill mugs at the resorts and do you bring them back year after year? Anyone have a favorite design?

Actually the mugs are supposed to only be good for the trip you are currently on if you read the disclaimers.

It bugs me when I see people using older mugs or just filling up water bottles from the fountian..

The mugs are relatively cheap so just buy new ones..

If they were actually serious about "rule" that then they would change designs more than once a decade... And really, filling up water bottles at fountains? If you're concerned about Disney and their finances I don't think that will break the bank [if it does they're in worse shape than we thought

Yeah really! When I pay $12 or $14 for a cup I think I will fill it up as often as I like! I agree that if they changed cups more often then it might help with the problem of return visitors using their old cups. I don't have a problem with it but if Disney does then they need to do a better job of policing it. Believe me, they are not losing out on any money by people filing up a cup at the water fountain. Disney does not pay for the soft drinks on the grounds. The Coca-Cola Company provides all of that at no charge in exchange for the obvious advertisement benefits.

I think, at least over at Coranado Springs they change it twice a year. The only thing that really changes is the color of the rim. I have blue, red, and orange. So if they ever have those colors again I will be using them.

In Epcot I always fill my water bottle up in the land pavillion, because water is free.

I want to see you prove this. I really really doubt that is true. They might get a discount but I'm sure it's not free.

Well, it looks like we are both right. I pulled this off of a site called http://www.disneylies.com. Even though the actual drink product is provided at no charge, they do recover those costs by charging the customer (Disney, theaters, etc. a fee for the containers).

Legend: Because of the advertising value of having its products featured at Disney theme parks, Coca Cola provides Disneyland with all of its beverage products free of charge.

Behind the Legend: This is true, but highly misleading. For years, Coke has had an advantage over rival Pepsi because it provides its products free of charge to all of its customers. The company makes up the loss by requiring that beverages only be sold in official cups or containers -- and charging an enormous amount for those contains. The container charge is based on a sliding scale depending on the customer. Individual consumers, purchasing beverages at a grocery or convenience store, pay only a few cents for the can or bottle in which their beverage comes. At the other end of the scale, movie theaters and theme parks like Disneyland pay as much as $2.00 for a single drink cup, making the exorbitant prices charged for drinks at those locations completely understandable.

Okay, you guys have really gotten me stirred up now..

Look.. It is a rule. The Mugs are only supposed to be used during your currnet stay. When you stay again buy a new mug.. Those are the rules..

We all talk bout the decline of Disneyland and DisneyWorld and we all complain, but what about us?

If we don't buy a mug whats next? Throwing our garbage on the ground becuase its easier and less work then putting in a bin?

If we want Disney to take better care of their parks and to offer more deals, lets not jip them. If they want 12$ for a mug.. So be it.. That price is an awesome deal when you consider the cost of drinks around the parks and resorts.

And 12$ is nothing in the grand scheme of your trip to WDW... Especially if your staying at one of the moderate or deluxe resorts.

Once again.. If we expect Disney to work harder, we must not only work harder buty also be good ambasadors. We are the die hard Disney fans.. We must show the public a good example.

Well even if they soda was free its still stealing, even if Disney doesn't enforce it, it doesn't mean its right.

I agree with addlema, buy a new mug. I buy one every time I go. It's not that expensive, especially when you look at the overall price you pay to go to WDW. I also view it as souvenir with benefits!

It drives me nuts when people use old mugs, and even worse any old container they decided to use. But that's just me.

This gets me as well. Thats like saying "If they were really serious about the law that says dont kill people" they would update it more then once a century.

Sorry guys, I was just stating that I don't have a problem with other people doing it. I bought a mug one time during my one and only stay at a Disney resort. That was a value resort. I stay off site 9 times out of 10 so it's a non issue for me. Yes, it is a good deal compared to what you would pay at a vendor in the parks two or three times a day.

Soda is so cheep to poor, a normal sized glass to fill at a restaurant is around 5-7 cents. So going at $2.00 a bottle, they are making a pretty good profit.
