How long before requests show

Post by sfein » Nov Tue 07, 2006 2:16 pm

This has probably been asked a lot, but I'm not coming up with the correct search terms to get a hit, so I guess I need to ask.

I know it is dependant on how many people are requesting and how long their requests are, but I was wondering what people have been finding to be approximate wait times before their requests play.

Obviously no one can be on all the time so there is a chance of missing a request, but if I can narrow down to a 4 hour block (for example), it is easier to catch the request.

I understand that. I guess I was looking at more of how long before it might appear on that list. I was trying to get a feel of whether or not requests come pretty quick (so keep watching the list) or for the most part assume the request will not appear for a few hours.

Are requests done on a FIFO basis or does the site pick based on what has appeared recently?

the time it takes to show up depends on the legth of the tracks that are in the queue as well as what is currently playing. there really isn't a set timeframe for when they show up on the listing.

the way the system works is that if there are no requests, it will play randomly. it is designed (though recent reports say there may be a slight problem at the moment) so that songs that have not played recently will play with will put the least requested tracks at a priority (I could be wrong about that in part, Sub, please correct me if it is). When it comes to requests, it's all first come, first served. the now playing page that Sub mentioned above will show the at least the next 2 upcoming tracks (if there are no requests), and I beleieve it will show as many as 10 upcoming (when there are requests).

Yes, it's on random play now, the least recently played is broken.

There are always at least 2 songs in the queue. If there are no requests, it queues tracks randomly. If you make a request, it falls behind anything that's in the queue regardless if it's a request or not. If the queue is filled with requests, the now playing page shows the next 10 tracks. Anything beyond that isn't displayed. This will change with SR 2.0 because I'm going to seperate the "Now Playing" and "History" pages. Once that happens, I'll show at least 20 tracks in the queue. I'll also display which place your request will land when you make a request.
