Little Mermaid Ride

Post by slotofkit » Oct Sat 14, 2006 7:27 pm

Okay, I know the subject line is not sounding like this is the right category for this post, but it will make sense...

I just finished watching a lot of the Little Mermaid Platinum Edition DVD and came across something interesting: They included a virtual ride of the Little Mermaid dark ride that was never built. They even had behind the scenes parts to it! I was so impressed and glad!

The "ride" was great. It makes me wish it was built because of the dry to wet effect, which is one of the most impressive ideas for a dark ride I have ever seen.

I wish I could let Disney DVD know to put more virtual rides on the DVD's. Or am I the only one impressed?

Wow!!! I need to the DVD right away. So let me get this straight... it was going to be a dark ride or would it occupy the space of the Submarine Voyage? You know... either one would make it great. I wonder what motivated them to discredit the ride idea. Come to think of it, there isn't any really ride for those Disney movies in the late 80's and early 90's. You notice? No real rides for LM, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Aladdin. What's up with that? Those were Disney's best, why not make a ride out of them?
Do you think have enough time to go the bathroom before the next show?

The DVD illustrates that it needed a 2-story building, and would occupy a dark ride space, not the submarine space. I'm sure there's numerous reasons to not have built it (one big one is the two story element, I'm guessing). But, I'm glad they're starting to put these ideas on DVD's.

What do you mean? I think DL's Fantasyland is well equiped. However, MK's Fantasyland is losing it's luster.

Wow... i saw that bonus video today. That would have been a great ride. Maybe it was too similar to Peter Pan, so they decided not to use it, plus it looks like it would have cost a lot. It's cool the way they make it seem underwater by putting lights above you similar to the Little Mermaid float in Spectromagic.
