I would go with All-Star Movies or one of the Pop Century resorts. I haven't stayed at the pop century but the All Star Movies is the best of the all star resorts. The sports and especially the music are very spread out. You can also spend a little bit more and asked for a preferred room at the all stars. This will get you closer to the main building. Its worth the few extra dollars.
One other thought. I don't know how long you are going for. But if you go for a week and plan to go with in the year, and AP might be a good idea. You can save alot.

Stumbled upon this post after your trip. I was wondering what the result was?
I'd vote for FW cabins. Everybody is pushing POP, but with 6 people, you can balance the extra cost of the cabin with the meal savings by cooking at the resort.

Hi - I often travel with a group of 6 and we always get two rooms at a moderate resort! We love POR and PFQ. We have discovered that even if we do not get connecting room they are usually very close to each other. Having two bathrooms and two televisions is great. Adults don't get forced to watch cartoons at night, we can actually catch the news if we want.
This November we may try FW if I can get a good rate with my AP. Not sure what the AP rates usually are for FW, time will tell.
We have nevered stayed at Deluxe hotels. We are at the hotel basically to sleep. shower, and use the pool!

We used to travel as a group of five with my family, and always ended up getting two rooms. It really helped in the mornings, since everyone was a morning shower person.
I'll second this thought. We've only stayed at one Value Resort (ASM), since we usually do the Deluxe route. Having two bathrooms could be a life saver in this instance. Enjoy the trip !!!

Fort Wilderness! It has GREAT atmosphere and you can take the boats to the contempory and get a bus/monorail to just about anywhere (more fun than waiting for busses at FW)

This post is over almost a year old and is almost 6 months after the OP's trip!

It's funny how people revive dead topics that seem like they should be dead
I guess in the spirit of discussion for anyone who happens to find themselves in this predicament I've stayed at All-Star Sports which I think is the oldest? If not oldest one of them. It was like a standard double tree hotel room I guess you could say although it was themed and the room had little sports and Mickey stuff. It was around the same price, maybe a tad steep, for a similar room at a non-Disney resort as I recall but it let you into the parks early and bus service if that's how you get around. I'd never use the bus service again though, waiting 2 hours after park closing to get a 10 minute bus ride was absurd. The longest line we waited in all day at MK and the least fun ride

I revived it. I was trolling through the posts looking for something a bit more interesting than "What is your favorite water fountain". I thought it was funny how so many people recommend All star in place of FW cabins.
Ill be staying at POP this aug on a budget trip w/free dining. However, I would recommend FW for a family of 6 everytime. I wonder how many on the users have ever even been to Fort Wilderness. It may be the best themed resort on property. When you are on site, you can't even see a parking lot!

Not to mention the GREAT Jogging opportunities early in the AM or late in the PM (When it's cooler... the trails are beautiful... or you could just jog the loops).. You can also rent Bikes there, they Have TWO pools open 24/7, the golf carts are a BLAST, and if you're in a tent, the rest stations are always clean! I haven't even mentioned the plethora of bunnies, birds and wildlife you'll see there. They have FREE outdoor movies and a big bonfire too (and playgrounds for the kids)! Lots of fun for "non park" days! The only thing that makes me sad in terms of FW, is that you can't swim in bay lake anymore (probably b/c gators... who knows) and the closing of Fort Wilderness (Small little waterpark, but FUN and quaint!)

Knedeau - a total sidebar, but where are you planning on staying on your next trip to the World? Your insight is wonderful, so I'd love to read a trip report of yours.

Are you talking about River Country? I was only there twice I think, but I have to be honest I was never that thrilled about it. But then again I grew up on Typhoon Lagoon. And they may have closed Bay Lake due to bacteria too. You can't chlorinate a lake (well I guess you COULD but it would not be advised). That was something I remember about River Country, how grimy/slimy it felt in the water, especially the bottom! But it's like that at most lakes I guess.

hehehe. Actually, My sis and I are staying at the Polynesian in Dec. It's my goal to stay at each one of the MK deluxe hotels. (all I have left is the Poly and the GF)
I grew up going to FW. So it tends to have a soft spot in my heart to begin with. But I'm ALLLLLLLL about the convienence. I find that staying in a MK resort has the best access (aka...MONORAIL) to get practically anywhere. Plus the Poly is walking distance from the ticket & transportation center.... also VERY conveinent!
I'm also a PLANNER...I do a LOT of homework before my trips (be it Disney, Paris, London, USA, Whatever). If you can't tell.... hehe... I have a lot of energy for the most part

What's everyone opinion in the Contemporary? I know that it's probably the oldest resort at WDW. Is it still pretty nice? I was thinking about staying at one of the monorail resorts next time we go. So I was debating the GF, Ploy, and the Contemp.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

Are you going to have kids with you? If yes, the All Star, is the way to go. It's has a great pool and a great caf type eatery. Lots of kids for you kids to play with. We had a good time at the AS, My DW did think the room was to small, The boys and I thought it was fine!

We will not have any kids with us. My wife and I will be going most likely by ourselves, or possibly trying to convince some friends to come with us. But it will be all adults, over the age of 25.

I LOVED the Contempory! The rooms are HUGE! I couldn't believe the sheer SIZE of them. Very nice, walking disntance from the MK, and the monorail is right upstairs (though you can't take a boat to the MK anymore from the contemporary...

) also if you're a jogger, then there aren't many trails around the Contemporary... Though, if you're like my sis and I, the fact that the California grill is walking distance from your room helps (especially after a few martinis!). Good pool too. Overall nice experience (great shopping there too!) Of course... as long as I was at Disney.. I don't think I could have a bad experience. I suppose it's the attitude you bring with you that makes or breaks a trip.
