Children's author J.K. Rowling has revealed that at least two characters will die in the seventh and final installment of her bestselling Harry Potter series, but was careful not to say who.
Children and adults are expected to rush and buy the final Harry Potter novel in their tens of millions when it is complete, and if the publication of the sixth book is anything to go by, secrecy surrounding the plot will be tight.
Rowling has already said that the final chapter of the seventh book was written long ago.
"The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly," she said in an interview broadcast on Monday on Britain's Channel 4. "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die."
When asked to be more specific, she added: "No, I'm not going to commit myself, because I don't want the hate mail or anything else."
She did explain that she understood an author's desire to kill off the main character of a successful series.
"I've never been tempted to kill him (Harry) off before the end of book seven, because I always planned seven books and that's where I want to go.
"I can completely understand, however, the mentality of an author who thinks 'Well, I'm going to kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels ... so it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character'."
Rowling, 40, wrote the first Harry Potter adventure when she was an unemployed single mother, but has gone on to become one of the richest authors in history with a personal fortune estimated at more than $1 billion.
The Harry Potter series has sold an estimated 300 million copies worldwide.

actually, according to
Mugglenet, she said 2 MORE people have died. I believe she has said once before that at least one other person would die, making the total 3. I agree that the final chapter can't come soon enough. Though, it will be sad when she doesn't write any more of the story.

My 16-year-old has grown up with and lives/breathes Harry Potter. I'm dreading the seventh book, first, because I know the death of a major character will be huge trauma for her and second, because once the series is over she'll go into major withdrawal. I hope when the book comes out there's advice for us parents on how to deal with distraught teens!

Can I go on record as the only person in the entire world who just doesn't get the appeal of Harry Potter? I get why kids like it....but it seems like
everyone loves them. Oh well. I guess I'm more of a non-fiction kind of guy anyway, which is why I love WDW - magic's
real there

I'm there too. I've never read any of the books, and I've only seen the first movie. My wife loves them, just like everyone else. I just don't get it though.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

I think maybe its success works in the same way DL or WDW are successful, everyone wants to believe that magic is really real and thats what attracts people to the Disney parks and to the Harry Potter books
Sometimes the bluest part of the sky seems so far away from us, I guess thats what keeps us striving for it...

I like the books because of the writing. JKR isn;t a particularly great writer, but she's very descriptive of things. That helps to peak my imagination and "see" what she's trying to say. I've also grown accustomed to the characters she's created and feel that I can relate to each one, at least in some way.

So true, as a 17 year old, I know that the 7th book is probably going to have me in tears. Partly because of the deaths and partly because I know after that there isn't going to be any more Harry Potter, other than the movies of course. I don't want to know how sad I'm going to be when the 7th movie comes out

Yah I never got into those books, But I did read a series of books they were not overly long but there was 36 books. After the last book you just place it down and start to remember all of the adventures and characters, and then you'll look back and read the last sentance of the last book.
