being a devout Catholic...i don't intend 2 c or support the movie. unfortunately, i think Dan Brown believes in his "fiction" a bit too much. it's just a new twist on an old heresy (gonosticism). in my opinion, all the controversy over the movie could have been avoided if Ron Howard had simply put a little blurb at the front of the film about the "fictional" nature of accounts. he was asked to do that, but refused. oh well....
i think it'd b a lot of fun 2 talk about this stuff (the religious discussion) here, but, it's probably against the rules (i'm not 100% sure) and i don't want to offend or get kicked out. i love talking about all things Catholic. i think it's sad that people cannot have these discussions without getting offended.

I completely understand that people are upset about the book and the movie. From my point of view, if the Church thinks people will believe a two-and-a-half hour movie as truth, and disregard a lifetime of teachings from the Church, then the Church needs to find a new way to spead their word and instill their core beliefs in their followers. I don't see DVC as the problem, but a real eye-opener of the true problems of the Church. If the beliefs of Catholics are not strong enough to stand up to a two-and-a-half hour Hollywood production, that is not the fault of the movie producers.

I don't think the Church is worried about Catholics being drawn astray by the Word of Brown...
My problem is with the uneducated who assume what is in the movie/book is what actually happened. Due to my faith, I am offended when people say to me "You mean you didn't know Jesus was married to Mary Magdalin?"... it's a work of fiction and I remind people of that, but it just sucks to have to essentially defend my faith over and over simply because of a piece of pop culture.

Well, it is more upsetting to some because it involves religion. However, to me it is no different than when people like Michael Moore create works of fiction and call them "documentaries". Some people will believe his trash as truth. That is the nature of the beast. Happens in all aspects of life. I don't let what others think of my religion offend me. Given the opportunity, I discuss it with them and let them see why they are wrong.

My friends and I went to see it on sunday and I thought it was enjoyable. It wasn't the best movie of the year I think.. (pirates will be soon
) but it was still well done. I didn't read the book so I couldn't compare. It was a little slow in the beginning but it got real good in the middle and the climax was well handled. I myself love movies about controversey. I like JFK and other movies like so... (which doesn't include Michael Moore)So if you've got taste in something gripping and exciting!! SEE IT
(oops...wrong one
)
Do you think have enough time to go the bathroom before the next show?

I have read both Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code and I think Dan Brown has merely found a really good formula for writing books. He researches some very interesting topics, albeit controversial, and wraps it up in a very suspenseful story with smart characters, surprising twists, and cool puzzles.
The whole fact/fiction thing is great for publicity. His books sell very well because of it. On a topic so firmly rooted in the past, who can really say for sure what happened? It's up to an individual's beliefs, and the first amendment says we can believe whatever we want.
Regardless, if you want to enjoy a cool Dan Brown puzzle devoid of any religious or otherwise controversial parts, they have a nice interactive puzzle on the publishers website. It takes a little over an hour to do the whole thing, but any puzzle fans will appreciate it. It's not entirely web-based, and does not require having read any of the books.
