DVC Point Rental Costs
Hello everyone,
I haven't rented DVC in a while. The last time was for February 2013, and I paid $10 a point. I'm renting for September 2014, and I've been offered $12 from quite a few people but 20% inflation in 18 months seems high.
What do you think is a fair offer for rented DVC points?
Thanks!

Whatever the market will bear, which could also all go straight in the toilet if Disney starts to take issue with the practice and prohibits it or requires the timeshare owner be present/have all transactions go through their account.

$12 seems like a good rate. Most of the rental sites I've checked out have been $14-15 per point (more for fewer points rented).

That has got to be a tough conversation for Disney. I wonder how many DVC owners would have troubles making ends meet if renting fell of the table as a cost recovery option.Wizzard419 wrote:Whatever the market will bear, which could also all go straight in the toilet if Disney starts to take issue with the practice and prohibits it or requires the timeshare owner be present/have all transactions go through their account.

Their conversation would be more on 3rd party sellers using first party resources and the first party getting nothing out of it but having to cover the expenses.
If the owners can't cover the cost, that is no concern for Disney, they aren't handling financing for the timeshares (it appears to be all up front), and if they don't get their annual fees, they could revoke your access.

I think Disney DOES offer financing when purchasing a minimum number of points. 10 year terms, I think. AND, because of the way IRS rules can be interpreted, some people write off the interest as "mortgage" interest much like they would a summer home or a boat with living quarters.Wizzard419 wrote:Their conversation would be more on 3rd party sellers using first party resources and the first party getting nothing out of it but having to cover the expenses.

While they offer it, I don't think it is done through WDC, they outsource it since it is cheaper and (more importantly), they get their money up front. If you default on your payments, they don't care, the finance company has to eat it and pay the fees.
