A reminder about little features...

Post by subsonic » May Thu 04, 2006 11:51 am

Some of you may not know about some of the smaller features Subsonic Radio has.

Wallpaper / Backgrounds
http://www.subsonicradio.com/backgrounds/
Themes
http://www.subsonicradio.com/themes/
Chat
http://www.subsonicradio.com/chat/
Store

(I do not markup any of the prices in the store. I do not make any money off these. My dream is to see someone else at a park wearing a SR shirt)

I wont be going to the park anytime soon - but next time I go I'll make sure I buy one and wear it. Ya never know! :) Heck maybe I can talk my wife into the "Family shirt thing" lol

Personally, I think you should mark up the prices a few bucks. I wouldn't mind "kicking in" to help a bit.

copyrights

Post by FlatlandMounty » May Thu 04, 2006 3:39 pm

hey just wondering...what was the copyright process like for this? I mean to use Disney and the Disney font...you can't go making and selling it without some sort of permission. Who did you talk to? What did you have to do? tell me everything.

fonts are readily available as freeware. could get them from any number of sources. hell, I've seen the fonts on CDs sold in various computer stores (those 1001 font packs). and for all we know, Sub got the picture from the ghetto disneyland in Japan (see here)

there's always some kind of way around copyright.. hehe

I don't know, I just keep going and hope I don't get in trouble. One day SR might go offline. You'll see a picture of me on some Jim Hill or Mouse Planet article in handcuffs.

Many Fonts are Free and are distibuted as freeware online... meaning you can use them however you wish, for commercial or personal use. And if you take a picture of something (with you're own camera) you can also use it however you wish to (in most cases... there are some gray areas...). As a webmaster for a non-profit college, I have to keep up on copyright issues. blah blah blah. The music.. hmmm, the fact that it's streaming, and not downloadable may help for SR not to get shut down. Again, Disney is getting free advertising from this. I know that listening to this music makes me want to go back to WDW very badly! Heheh, I'm already trying to talk hubby into going back!

Also, I want to add that listening to Subsonic Radio is FREE. I assume he sells his gear (shirts, caps, etc.) to cover the cost of operations only. It's not like he's doing this for profit, but the SHEER love of Disney!

Ok, And a quick note to Subsonic, you wouldn't be arrested for doing this. If Disney DID have a prob you'd get a Cease and Desist 1st. ;)

Actually I don't even think he gets THAT. Sub just sells the stuff at cost for fun, right?

there is absolutely no money made whatsoever on the store items. those costs are just what Cafepress charges. Sub sells the stuff so one day he can see someone wearing a shirt in one of the parks.

Yes, rudekick and js3901 are correct. I make NO money off this site. I have to pay for DSL and electrical. So technically I lose money. But those are things I need anyways, so I don't consider it a loss. The merchandise on the store is cafepress's cost, I do not markup the items to make money off them. Personally, I'd like them to be cheaper so more people might buy stuff.

If anyone is taking requests  , I think a "haunted" them (ala Tower of Terror/Haunted Mansion) would be totally cool - wish I knew how to remotely even assist in doing that.
