It's been on FX for a while and will still continue to be because of the sequels in the works

Considering film is an industry that is in it's death rattles, I would say that is not totally unusual in terms of being a modern American human. It would be akin to saying you haven't been to a Disney park I would imagine, kind of odd but not to the point we would assume you were Amish.

 Yeah, you've got a point there. I would probably try to watch it before we went to the parks once the attractions/land open. Which reminds me, we really should find and watch Cars sometime in the next 6 weeks or so....

Amy I think you would enjoy the movie. It's essentially "Fern Gully" retold, but the visuals are truly stunning. It's not on my list of favorites, but if the kids want to watch it, I don't roll my eyes. Hubby tells me that Cameron is planning on making another 2 movies in the next handful of years. Hopefully that will keep "Avatarland" relevant.

I think they bumped it up to 3 more movies, which also might be related to why one of the rides is not going to open with the rest of the land. If it had content from the unreleased movie they wouldn't want to spoil it/confuse riders.

Never saw Fern Gully either. I heard mixed reviews from people that saw Avatar so I never bothered to watch it once it hit the stores. I'll probably watch it when it hits tv.

Wish you lived closer. You could come over and watch it with Ellie, she loves it.

Avatar really is an amazing movie...visually speaking. Sure the story may be old...but I think Cameron did a great job putting his spin on it. I think the biggest problem with the movie is that it was hyped so much and so many people proclaimed it as the greatest movie of all time that it was shunned by people who would have otherwise enjoyed it.

As for Disney successfully creating what the models and design plans show...I will be surprised if they can make it look 50% as good as planned. I hope I am wrong though.

Concept art always looks unrealistically better than the final product, mainly because they don't have to make it actually work. :D

well now, they did manage to raise the Cadillac range now didn't they? a geodesic sphere? a goshdarn 200 foot tall tree with a theatre in the base? a little forced perspective and some heavy-duty imagineering and hidden structural and you could make an island 'fly'... from a certain point of view.

I would imagine that actually would not be hard, though it might not be moving (possibly could do a small rock at the top that moves) but some of the more dramatic effects that are usually proposed (esp when using figures) are not possible for the simple reason that the tech isn't there.

Conceptually, you could make the island appear to be flying by building the structure to support it, covering the structure in camouflaging fabric, and having fog machines hide it. Conceptually.

My guess is they would not have them move at all since it may not be a focal point to begin with. It is doable, for sure, but the effect wouldn't be as dramatic as in the film since it would be distant and all.

So similar to what they did with Beast's castle at Be Our Guest?
