Would not be surprised if they were getting the butt-hurt cannons ready over nothing, same thing happened with the BTM refurbishment claiming that Disney was going to remove the town from the ride. Odds are it is going to be closed off as the work/staging area for the renovation since it sounds more involved than just new carpet and paint.

It is true that they need an ADA-compliant elevator, so something will have to change. I am hearing the new lobby will take over the store immediately to the right of the current club entrance, but the courtyard will remain open to guests after the refurbishment.Wizzard419 wrote:Would not be surprised if they were getting the butt-hurt cannons ready over nothing, same thing happened with the BTM refurbishment claiming that Disney was going to remove the town from the ride. I am surprised the existing one wasn't compliant considering you couldn't really lax on those standards. I am also partially surprised they don't simply make them go through the dream suite, which added an exterior elevator when it was built.

The french lift is small, and the accordion door opens into the lift. There is no way a wheelchair would fit in there and be able to close the door. Plus, you have to step up three steps to get to the lift.
There is an ADA-compliant lift, but you have to go into a storage area, and take the lift which opens to the inside of the small food-prep area in the club. Neither of these areas are suitable to guests and are "backstage."
Going through the dream suite would be very problematic if guests were in the suite. Plus, you would have to walk through the Club's kitchen.

Why do I get the feeling there will be even more butt-hurt if they stop using the old elevator?

keep it as a museum piece? more likely remove and sell it, like the old mark IV red car 1... or the horizons cars... or the *insert random thing a disney nut would pay for*

They might ship the car to the archives and then sell off the rest of the fixtures as pieces (I am shocked that people would pay so much for used china from the poly resort), and run the rest of it through a hammer mill and sell the fragments to people as well.

I think they are going to keep the lift and move it to the new lobby as a stationary piece.Wizzard419 wrote:Why do I get the feeling there will be even more butt-hurt if they stop using the old elevator?

Is that how much they charged for the pins?
Disney is one of the few companies that can sell off trash rather than have to pay to haul it away. Such as when they sold off the Swiss Family treehouse leaves (framed and mounted), or bottles of dust from the haunted mansion (those were actually gifts with some special event package I think)

I wouldn't be surprised if the elevator got a pass due to grandfathering, but those exemptions only last so long. I can't see them ripping it out, though. Better to leave it non-operational in place.

Re: Dateline Disneyland
That is the cheapest option, but since it is one of those things that the archives would probably want since it would not be of use anywhere else. ADA (and other) grandfathered exemptions have been really abused, and now Disney has been feeling the heat with fines.

Re: Dateline Disneyland
News travels quickly. So this is what I am now hearing: the store to the right of the club will be used as the main lobby. The court of angels will still exist, but it will indeed be closed off to the public and used as an additional lounge for the club. The french lift will be relocated but will still remain. A new elevator will be added into the store that will become the new lobby. The iconic green door will still remain.

Re: Dateline Disneyland
As I said previously, grandfather was not really an issue since the club has access to a backstage freight elevator that is ADA compliant. It is just a pain for guests to be escorted and brought up through some areas that are not meant for guests.
