I can't imagine that will change given their policy for free ice water. At least I hope it won't!

Well, you said the ice and water worked without the chip, so that's probably a good sign.

Too bad the beer dispensing version is banned in most states (yet somehow the wine one isn't). :D

To me it would be cost effective if you were allowed to use the mugs in the parks, but as i understand, the mugs are only allowed at the resorts. I would only use the mug maybe twice in one day if lucky. most of my waking days are spent at the parks not the resort. :( :goofy:

Actually, if I recall correctly, the wine dispensers are/were legal in Orlando (they were featured on a travel show). The issue that various states have is that the machine itself has no way to verify age and anyone can theoretically use the cards.

Yup, the mugs only are good at the resorts. You do see people carrying them around at the parks, presumably after having had their morning coffee from the resort while traveling to the parks on the bus. I've seen a few discussions online about how much people would be willing to pay for the mugs if they were able to be used at the parks as well as the hotels.
I'm with you on the not being at the hotel to use the mug much. It would have been nice a few nights to have been able to get a beverage after returning from the parks, but the beverage stations closed down earlier than we returned from EMH most evenings. I'd rather spend the time in the park than have another Coke or hot chocolate ~ although the hot chocolate tasted really good on the bitterly cold nights we did get back to the hotel in time

This is almost as good as something I saw on Pinterest. You put your booze of choice in a ziploc bag and freeze it and poke a hole in it with a straw and call it "an adult capri sun"

That's not an adult capri sun, the bag inside a box of wine is.

A somewhat common way to sneak larger amounts of alcohol into college football games (since many of them prohibit the sale of alcohol) is to take the bag out of the box of wine and wear it under a shirt and cover it with a backpack. Then they can enjoy their low quality, body temperature, box wine....

But we have digressed just a bit from the original topic, let's bring it back around so we don't get whacked with Len's stick  ;)
Does anyone think the parks are going to end up having a mug that works in the parks themselves after they implement these new RFID cups in the hotels? I would think they might be heading toward that since many of the other parks have something like that. And people are suckers for a "souvenir" cup!

They probably wouldn't because it may actually hurt their revenue rather than boost it since it would mean people would no longer be purchasing individual bottles/cups of soda, it would throw off the streams for the carts and fast service places. Usually those mugs are also not water tight, so people would need to dump the contents prior to going on some rides, which is of little consequence to the guest since they can just grab a refill, but it also means that the soda was wasted.

Good point on the individual bottles of pop ~ I was only thinking of the paper cups. I still think it would be profitable as they would make a lot of money on people that were only in for a day or two. They might lose money on guests staying longer though.

They also might lose more, since you mentioned their practice of closing the refill stands at the hotels at night. If a guest is gone all day in the parks and leaves early enough, they may end up paying for the mugs and not using them.
