Re: "Four free nights at a Monorail Resort? Yes, please!" TR
Those flowers in EPCOT are gorgeous! I really hope to be able to go during the Flower and Garden Festival one year ~ the smells of the flowers must be quite nice as well
I'm surprised your boss didn't know more about the DME, and especially the difference between that and having rented a car Good thing you had talked your wife into going to WDW a few times so she knew what was going on! I can just imagine the poor CM at the Contemporary guessing and guessing who she was
That is so neat that you were able to spot one another from the monorail and the entrance. Too bad she didn't capture you in the photo. And shame on you for having us play "Where's H?" when you knew you weren't in the photo at all Do you know why Goofy is holding a birthday-type cake in the topiaries?
Did your kids even talk to you after you teased them so much with Club Cool?
Beer, brat, yummy looking bun ~ check! Sauerkraut (insert barfing emoticon here) Is there a quick serve in Germany or was this a special food kiosk with the Flower and Garden? Nice shirt by the way
Isn't it funny when you run into people in WDW that you didn't know were going to be there? It shows it really is a small, small world...everybody sing!
"Low on alcohol" ~ as if I've read about Carl in a few of the Disney food blogs. He sounds amazing!
That is odd that they didn't have any seafood on your dinner menu. Were you in the corporate lounge area of the Living Seas? Thanks for including the backstage photos ~ I don't know that I have ever seen the back of the American Pavilion and I actually have paid for several backstage tours
That is pretty neat that you had that private area for Illuminations ~ and with dessert as a bonus! Are all those people with your company function or did they combine parties?
Cool photo of Illuminations with Wishes ~ I don't think I have ever been in a location to see both at once.
Your photos are really nice, all the same size, none upside down I hear your pain with photobucket though ~ I don't know what is up with them...
hope Mary's foot is feeling all better now. I can't imagine anyone actually feeling better in heels but am glad she had them and it helped.
More to come? Hooray!!

I am not even a “flower” person, but I enjoyed all the bright and lovely flowers—it really is a sight!Amy wrote:Those flowers in EPCOT are gorgeous! I really hope to be able to go during the Flower and Garden Festival one year ~ the smells of the flowers must be quite nice as well
Yeah my wife had them all scratching their head, but it was funny how when they ‘got it’ they knew right what to do and where to send her As for my boss—he’s just weirdAmy wrote:I'm surprised your boss didn't know more about the DME, and especially the difference between that and having rented a car Good thing you had talked your wife into going to WDW a few times so she knew what was going on! They did that for the 20th annual Flower festival. It says “20” on top of the cake. Its hard to see, but I can blow up the original and see it. One other thing: If you can see it on the far side, Mickey is cooking hot dogs—they have the SSE “Rome burning” smell coming out of the grill also! It was pretty awesome.Amy wrote:That is so neat that you were able to spot one another from the monorail and the entrance. Too bad she didn't capture you in the photo. Ha—yes they do, but the love to get all dramatic about itAmy wrote:Did your kids even talk to you after you teased them so much with Club Cool?
There is a QS. They serve brats, pretzels, beer and strudel and I think that is all. Its back there by the restaurant. I think its call Sommerfest. All I know is, the beer is always flowing!Amy wrote:Beer, brat, yummy looking bun ~ check! He is---definitely check him out next timeAmy wrote:Isn't it funny when you run into people in WDW that you didn't know were going to be there? It shows it really is a small, small world...everybody sing!

Yes it was the corporate sponsor area, as per Yodiwan’s post.Amy wrote:That is odd that they didn't have any seafood on your dinner menu. Were you in the corporate lounge area of the Living Seas? They were all with us. It was all of the people that do my same job from all over North and South America. I only knew about 10 of them
Just dumb luck really! But I am glad I got to see itAmy wrote:Cool photo of Illuminations with Wishes ~ I don't think I have ever been in a location to see both at once.
Thanks—I was really getting frustrated there.Amy wrote:Your photos are really nice, all the same size, none upside down I hear your pain with photobucket though ~ I don't know what is up with them...
I agree---but she said it had something to do with how the back of her foot was elevated—who knows. I was just glad she was OK.Amy wrote:hope Mary's foot is feeling all better now. I can't imagine anyone actually feeling better in heels but am glad she had them and it helped.

That must be a teenage boy thing. Hmmm, I will have to look for that next time. I wouldn't mind a brat and a beer minus the evil sauerkrautwewantsdaredhead wrote:There is a QS. Re: "Four free nights at a Monorail Resort? Yes, please!" TR
Wednesday May 8th, 2013
I had some meetings this morning, but I saw on the schedule that a Gentleman from the Disney Institute was going to talk for about 30 mins. I was looking forward to that. He turned out to be the highlight of the morning—he was an excellent speaker and very passionate. I wish I could convey his message to all of my direct reports. I continually try to explain to them that superior customer service is what we need to provide because we are not the cheapest place in town (sound familiar?).
Anyway while I was at the meetings, my wife hit the pool. Today was the day to go to MK. In all honesty, they gave us one day passes and we could have gone wherever we wanted, but while at the pool, my wife met up with my boss’s wife. They cooked up a plan to hit the new Fantasyland all together. Just what I wanted to do—hang out with my boss at the happiest place on Earth.
Full Disclosure: I have tons of respect for my boss—he’s a decent guy that understands how I work and for the most part, lets me do just that. He has an incredible business sense. But he’s just on another wavelength—we don’t click personally at all. Perhaps it’s because he IS my boss that we don’t click. Who knows…? Regardless, I wasn’t looking forward to it.
We finished up our meetings around 11 and we decided to meet at the Gasparilla Island Grill (the 24 hour QS restaurant) for lunch at Noon and then get on the monorail to MK. I had a “flatbread” (which everywhere else in the universe would be called ‘pizza’) which was yummy and a cold beer to kickstart the day! My boss said, “You having a beer already?” To which I replied, “Yes because you can’t get one at MK.” They were all shocked that you could not get a beer in MK (yes, except at Be Our Guest for dinner—but we weren’t going there…) and I was shocked that they didn’t know that. Hmmm
I love the fact that the MK is only one stop from the GF—have I mentioned that already? Speaking of the monorail, you wouldn’t believe how many people I had to help with monorail issues, like where to get off, how to switch between the resort line and the Epcot line, “what stop is this?” etc. Perhaps it was because I rode it so much. I think I only rode a bus two times all week. (Other than DME, of course)
We rode SM (10 min wait), Buzz (20 min) and then headed back to the “New Fantasyland” (as all the billboards proudly proclaim). We walked around and I had to explain everything to my tour group. Oh I forgot…we had another tag along. A woman whose husband had gone golfing leaving her alone—she asked if she could join us. This was also my first time in the new FL, but I guess I had to be the expert because I am the “Disney Guy” at work.
We rode Under The Sea, that, while it seems like just a better version of Nemo, was actually pretty cool. The queue is awesome—I’ll just leave it at that for those of you that hate spoilers. And the ride is about 10 times better than Nemo. (IMHO) I love how you really go ‘under the sea’ and I found myself singing Little Mermaid songs all day. The only thing I thought was odd was the size of Ariel’s Father’s hand (I forget his name…Neptune??) Has anyone else noticed that? NaCler? Oversized hand aside, it’s worth it and we walked right on. The wait was posted as 10 mins, but like most attractions, that is translated as “Walk on.”
Sorry—I am no photog!!
Our hosts were having a “pub-themed” dinner for us that evening—we were intrigued, so we wanted to attend. (My wife and I had talked about blowing off one of the dinners and just spending all day at the park, but it never happened.) So we figured we had to leave around 5 to get back and shower, etc. I continually asked them what they wanted to see/do, but they kept saying things like, “We are just following you, Tour Guide!”
So we walked on the HM, which broke down about 5 times. One of the times we sat in the attic for about 10 mins…who knows. I told my wife—we get stuck in the creepiest part of the attraction! Although there are a few places I would not want to get stuck on that one!!
After finally getting out (barely) with our lives, we got hung up in parade traffic and got behind a stroller jam. Two humongous strollers couldn’t get by each other and had the whole sidewalk jammed up. What a mess!
I decided to take them to the PotC and like everything else, it was a walk on. I explained to my group that this ride was one of the ones that “got me” when I was a teen in 1986 visiting for the first time. I remember thinking how awesome the queue was. The Disney Bug bit me somewhere amidst the cannonballs and kegs of rum.
Everyone had seen enough, so I held up my flag and they followed me out of the park where we decided to take the water taxi back to GF. That was a first for me! We were there in no time. We parted ways and agreed to have a drink at the 2nd floor bar (right behind the band) just before dinner.
We took a quick nap and had a shower and met up for that drink. I had a vodka martini (can you imagine I didn’t have a beer!? ) and my wife had wine. The boss-man had a beer and then it was time to go to the Convention Center for that dinner. Oh yeah, we did get to hear the band play a little bit—that was pretty cool. In fact, some evening head over to the GF, stroll the grounds a little to take it all in and then hit the bar right behind the band. Have a drink and enjoy the old-time music they play. You won’t regret it!
Me just chillin` in the Happiest Place on Earth:
We were the first ones to arrive! They had a nice spread going on. They also had pool tables and dart boards and karaoke. It was pretty sweet! Oh and don’t forget the full bar. We got our fill of it and then some—we played a few games of darts. We got talking about Wishes—it was at 9 that night. Someone suggested we go watch it at the Marina and I said; even better, let’s go watch it at the Poly Beach, a short walk away. So that’s what we did. We grabbed a ‘roadie’ and walked over and through the Poly.
It reminded me of that time we all met there so many months ago. Good times!
After Wishes my wife and I hopped on the monorail instead of walking back, but everyone else stayed behind to watch some movie they were playing on the beach on that inflatable screen. Then we went back to the dinner we left for “one more” and to meet up with some of our other friends that came late.
Tomorrow is the “free day” so we wanted to get to bed early and hit it hard all day. It was a one day hopper for us and NO boss-man! He was going to some golf thing that they cooked up. Yayy me.
One note about the tickets they gave us. They gave everyone one ticket for each day you signed up for. In other words, they handed me six tickets, each labeled with the day to use it, instead of one ticket each with three days on it. It just seemed weird to me---it seems like it would cost more as well, but what do I know?
Anyway…we were armed with a one-day hopper. What to do? What to do…?
Nighty Night.

Sounds like another nice day ~ that is really great that you played tour guide for the day. I'm sure your boss and the other lady appreciated it ~ and if they didn't appreciate it, at least they had a good time and saw a lot in the time you were there. Sounds like the pub-themed party was right up your alley as well
I wonder if the conventions have a different rate on tickets and they get so many for each day they are having meetings?

Re: "Four free nights at a Monorail Resort? Yes, please!" TR
Thursday May 9th, 2013
We set our alarm for 6:30, but it never went off. I was up and in the shower by 6:10—musta been because we were in bed so early and had a relatively easy day yesterday.
After waffling a bit, we settled on DHS in the AM followed by Epcot with a mid-day resort/pool break. So we headed out after breakfast and wow were we early! A note about breakfast: They provided a delicious, hot breakfast every morning that was just for us. It was setup in Citricos. I enjoyed it and the food was always great. It was also the closest I will ever be to Victoria and Albert’s
DHS didn’t open until 9 and we were full and ready to roll by about 7:15. I told my wife that the one time you want the bus to be late, it will come right away. Well, guess what—that’s just what happened. We walked over to the bus area and didn’t even get to sit down and the DHS bus came around the corner. Ha!
We were at the entrance at around 8—yes we are ridiculous. lol So we sat there and read the paper from the hotel until they let us in around 8:50.
We went right to TSMM because we hadn’t been on it the last few trips. That crush of people was just too much—we like the attraction, but not enough to go through all that mess. Well for whatever reason, that crush was gone. There were definitely a lot of people headed that way, but not like it used to be. Remember how the CMs used to practically escort you back there? Not anymore…well not that day anyway.
Needless to say it was a walk-on. There was some young boy behind us that was freaking out because he was scared of it. His family kept trying to calm him down by comparing it to Buzz Lightyear. I don’t know what he was so scared about, but you know how it is. Fear of the unknown I guess. Poor guy---he got on but he wasn’t happy about it. I wish I could have seen him afterwards to see how he did.
Of course I spanked my wife I think I had 180,000 or so. I won’t mention her score, but rest assured that it was lower.
I said, “Hey since were over on this side of the park, let’s do ToT together before you ride RnR single rider…” She just gave me the stare down—“Oh so you aren’t riding RnR with me?” Uh-oh! I tried everything to get out of it, including telling her that I could not do ToT and RnR back to back (if at all!) but that didn’t work either. So, for the second time in 4 months, I rode RnR. Ugh. Still not a fan.
Needless to say, I was all shook up and couldn’t do ToT right then, so we got FPs and headed to ST, one of our faves!!! We rode it twice in a row (walk on—sensing a theme here?) and then we said, ya know what…Let’s just ride ToT (with our FPs) and then head over to Epcot. So, that’s what we did.
We took the water taxi (yes the one that stops about a million times between DHS and Epcot) and rolled up to Epcot at 10:45. We entered the IG and saw people hanging a right toward France, so we assumed WS was open a little early, but when we got to the far side of France they had a rope drop. I had never seen that before, so that was cool. The CM was getting everyone pumped by asking: Who is ready to experience other cultures? A few people raised their hands. What about other culture’s foods? A few more… The culture of beer? My wife and I raised our hands and a few people chuckled. Ha! Then they let us in. We bee lined it over to Italy where we had to get our son a shirt he wanted.
A shot of how empty it was…Heaven!!
The Italian CMs were playing soccer on the main walkway around WS with Italian flags around them like capes—it was pretty cool. I tried to get a picture, but it didn’t turn out. Once more people came into WS they put it away and tended to their tills.
We got the shirt he wanted and it was time for a brat and a beer! We took our time eating and then walked around some more toward Mexico, looking at all the Flower and Garden stuff. (After we got home and I did my expense report, I thought I had submitted duplicate entries for brats and beers—lol nope we did eat there twice!)
We made our way up front and decided to go back for some pool time! But first, SSE at my wife’s insistence. A quick monorail ride, a transfer and one more and we were poolside enjoying a tasty frozen concoction. It was hot!!!! (The sun not the drink…)
We got back to the room after I almost melted in that sun and my wife said, “Well I don’t know about you, but I feel great. I don’t need to nap or anything. Do you want to go back to the park?” Heck yes!
I had not received our DME return trip info yet, so we stopped at the Concierge desk on the way to the monorail and the CM working (a younger gentleman) seemed very disinterested and told me not to worry, they “probably just hadn’t brought it around yet.” OK, fair enough.
We wanted to see the butterfly garden they had setup so we meandered that way. Club Cool was beckoning, so we drank a few in there and then went into the butterfly area. It was tough to get a picture of them—they didn’t sit still at all.
Can you see it?
It was time for a cold one, so we went to Canada and walked through the shop. We chatted with a super nice CM about Canada for about 15 mins. She was really bubbly and was more than happy to chat us up about her country.
We wanted to do Test Track and Soarin`, but we didn’t want to wait in line for 50 mins (each) and the FP times just weren’t lining up for us, so I said let’s just pick one and do it. We decided on TT. We headed that way and then we had a V-8 moment. Single rider line!! Duh! 10 mins we were in and on, going 64 mph. We even skipped the design your car area (we did this a few times in January and it wasn’t all that exciting anymore) and got on even quicker.
There was a big school group that was in the single rider line and I just KNEW it was going to be an issue. That’s one of my pet peeves---people abusing the single rider line. But, it wasn’t—everything worked out and since we got on so quick, we decided to get FP for Soarin` and do it later. 6:45 was our return time.
You know what we did next—we had some beers in WS, of course. I probably sound like a broken record, don’t I? Either that or an alcoholic lol. I am neither I can assure you.
We parked it in England and decided to split a fish and chips and one of the funnier things on the trip happened here. We sat down at that seating area to the right of the fish and chips store. A younger couple from Scotland was eating fish also (I take that as a good sign that these fish and chips are close to authentic..?) and a squirrel came out to see if he could get a handout. Well this guy (from Scotland) gave him a fry (chip) and the squirrel ran up into a tree with it and it just tickled this guy to end. He gave him another and another until he ran out! His wife was getting embarrassed by him and when he turned around and asked for some of HER chips, she told him to, “SOD OFF!” Then he decided to see if the squirrel would enjoy some fish. (He did.) Then the dude announces that we have all been entertained for 20 mins by a squirrel. “Why do we need all this Mickey Mouse and such.” Oh it was a scene, man. His Wife could have crawled into a ball and gone away at this point—she was totally red-faced. “Look at him. He loves chips!” became a catch phrase for the rest of the trip (of course you have to say it with a Scottish accent—lol).
Here is the little Guy (with a chip):
Here are some pics from around the world:
Recognize that purdy gal behind the cowboy?
While in Japan, we did something neither of us had done: We had sake! We didn’t know anything about it, so we left it up to the CM to explain it and use her best judgment to pick us a winner. It was different—not good, not bad, just different.
Then we decided it was time to hit our FP window. On the way over there, we cut through the temporary character stop area and I saw an elderly CM just standing there alone and I said, “What do we have going on here?” She said, “Mickey is in there and he wants to see you.” Ha! No line at all! We walked in and Mickey pointed at my shirt. We gave him a hug and had a picture made with him. We skipped the other characters. There was the cutest little baby just hamming it up with Minnie and melting everyone’s hearts. We pushed on to The Land.
After Soarin` with Patrick, we decided to go back and eat with the group. Even though it would mean missing Illuminations.
One last look back…
I am glad we went back because they gave us some very nice etched pilsner style glasses with Mickey and the crew on it. The food was so-so, a common theme at these dinner events, unlike breakfast which was always awesome. When we got to the room…still no DME info. This was about 8:30-ish.
I marched up to the front desk and a super nice CM named Yesy helped me out. Man was she awesome. This is the 2nd trip that I had trouble with the DME return trip booking. But Yesy handled it with skill and tact and put my mind at ease. In about 10 minutes she handed me my DME info and told me that our bus would arrive at 6:20am—ugh! I mentioned her by name in the post-visit survey.
By the time we were all done with that, it was about 9:15, so we sat at the Marina and waited for Wishes. My boss stopped by and bought us a beer and waited with us. His wife said, “Oh tonight’s is much better than the other night.” I was curious and asked if it was because of the angle? She replied, “No the fireworks are just better tonight. They mixed it up a little.” I just shook my head and wondered what she meant. They were exactly the same, just like always. My wife even commented on it later.
So I ask? Do they change Wishes? Other than, say, a holiday tag or something? Isn’t it always the same?
Anyway… We got home with no incident (other than a very bumpy flight) and it was good to see my kids after more than a week!
A better shot of the cake (for Amy):
Final thoughts:
What a great trip!! I am so blessed to work at such a great company that allows me to do such things. I have been places I would never go unless they were footing the bill. The GF is just one of many such places, it just happens to be at my favorite place.
The GF: Wow! I know that won’t ever happen again, so I am glad I got to enjoy it...especially with my wife. A monorail resort really does have it plusses. I can’t tell you how easy it was to not have to wait on a bus all the time. You know how you get to the stop and ten busses can come and go and not be yours? Well that never happens on the monorail---every time it comes it’s for you. I really enjoyed the monorail, can you tell?
My boss wasn’t really as annoying as I thought he would be. I think his wife tempered him a little bit. I am glad for that!
So…all-in, how much do you think the “all expenses paid trip” cost me?

Re: "Four free nights at a Monorail Resort? Yes, please!" TR
So many pictures in this installment Hooray!!
Not only did you get to go on this awesome trip, you got to submit an expense report too?! Very nice!
Great action shot of the butterfly They are sort of challenging to get to sit and pose. I've chased a few around our yard, the neighbor's yard and back and forth. It seems like just when they settle on a beautiful flower, they do a drunk, happy flitter over to somewhere else
I've found the CMs to be quite enjoyable to chat with. Since many of them are so young, they are more than happy to talk about their home countries. You can tell some of them are a tiny bit homesick though.
You lucked out on the Test TRack single rider line. The last time we went, I was in that single rider line with so many other people ~ much larger than groups of 1 or 2 ~ I think it was almost an hour between the huge groups in the single rider line and the fastpasses.
I hope Mary got that beanie ~ it looks really cute on her And what can I say about you in your viking helmet?!
DME at 6:20 AM?! There is nothing magical about that time at all
Ah yes, now I see the cake that Goofy is holding ~ much better ~ thanks!
Hmmm, I'm guessing the price for your trip was pretty reasonable. I'm guessing you might have had to pay for your wife's food and drinks, but not yours since you mentioned an expense report.... $50?

Re: "Four free nights at a Monorail Resort? Yes, please!" TR
Awesome report bro. Just a few notes:
- You are correct and Wishes does not change unless it is a holiday tag.
- I'm so proud that you became a Brazilian tour guide, it must have been a proud moment for you.
- Seeing your pics, I now have this sudden urge to wander around WS and try on crazy hats with you (with beer in hand of course.)
- yes, I have noticed King Triton's freakishly large hands but never mentioned it as I didn't want to sound weird but since you mentioned it first! you posted a good shot of those things also.
- did you guys do the Story Time with Belle or skip it because of the long line?
- let's see, you paid $250 for Mary's plane ticket and I am going to guess about $87 in beer/snacks over the 3 days Mary was with you. So I will guess $337 total for the whole trip.

NaCler: We skipped it because of the line--you are correct. It was crazy like 50 mins or something and with the limited time we had, we decided to catch it next time with no..."tour group."
Amy nice guess, but you forgot about two things: The $250 ticket for Mary and...
How awesome of an employee I am
I was very fair and did not charge the company for anything on my free day---technically I was off that day. I used a vacation day.
Add a few other things (souvenirs) and John you are amazingly close.
I spent $500 all in
$250 for mary's ticket.
$150 on souvenirs and such
$100 or so on beer and food.
Not bad for a 'free' stay huh?
Thanks for reading guys...
