Art of Animation for Adults

Post by fancyfeet » May Sun 05, 2013 1:08 pm

Has anyone stayed at Art of Animation without kids? Technically my niece will be with me for part of the visit but part of the time it's just myself and another adult. Any feedback someone would like to share?

I am 22 years old and I had a great time with my friends at Art of Animation. I feel like some of the drawings are hard for kids, depending on what character is chosen. My class did Tinker Bell, which our animator said was one of the harder ones because her face is symmetrical. It is a great experience whether you have kids or not.

I think you're referring to Animation Academy at DHS. The OP was about the hotel. :-)

We almost did Animation Academy, but I really wanted to see Sulley so we bailed.

My wife and I stayed at Art of Animation when we were there in January. To be honest we didn't spend much time at the resort except for sleeping. We stayed in the Little Mermaid section as that is the only portion of this value resort that is not family suites. I still thought it was a neat experience. We knew we were going to stay on site as I was running the marathon so we wanted to be as close as possible and the Disney bus system worked great for that and also for getting around the rest of the week. The main reason we chose it was because it was still a value resort and was one of the closest value resort to the start line. I could definitely see staying there again though. We didn't spend nearly enough time going through the different themed sections and taking pictures. But on the other hand I think we would have had just as much fun staying at pop century next door.
Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a full and complete stop. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Walt Disney World.

I was really bummed when I learned they weren't going to build the first half of the 20th century as originally planned. I was really looking forward to seeing the theming they would come up with for the 1920s, 30s, and 40s.

Have not stayed here but did have lunch. The food hall has quite a selection of different things to other food halls. We will definitely eat here again and the big bonus for us anyway was proper metal cutlery.

I was bummed too...until I realized that there is no way they could have done better than they did with Art of Animation.

If you aren't staying in the family suites...you are probably better off staying at Pop Century and walking over to Art of Animation to check everything out. You'll save money. Now...if you have kids you are better off at Art of Animation because of the pools. I doubt kids would want to swim in the Pop pools after walking over and seeing the ones at Art of Animation.

It seems like both Pop Century and Art of Animation are much more expensive than the other value resorts though. It makes sense that the suites would be more expensive, but does anyone know why the regular rooms are more expensive?

AoA is much more Disney-esque than the rest of Pop Century ever could have been, that's true.

But still. :-)

Amy I would like to know the answer to that, too.

The regular rooms and pop are basically the same price as the All Stars. Ive stayed at Pop a few times, and checked on the AOA for our trip in Feb.

Hmm, they weren't when I last looked. Pop and AoA were consistently higher in price and more on par with the moderate resort pricing. Maybe they have equalized the value resorts a bit.

They might have started out more expensive simply because they are newer resorts than other value resorts.

I think when you stay at the value resorts and even most of the moderate resorts, you will be surrounded by kids. I think the high end resorts tend to favor adults. Now the good thing is I've found that 90% of Disney kids tend to be pretty well behaved, polite-good kids. But kids are kids too. When I see a child act out or get upset, you can always tell the non-kid adults because they will always look at the situation with that "Make him stop" look but the other parents who have multiple kids...we don't even notice because it was our kids doing the same thing about 5 minutes ago.

Thanks everybody! I'm really looking forward to my trip in September. We have several "rest" days so I hope to walk around the resort and check everything out and take lots of pictures.
