Getting to Universal

Post by Brian845 » May Thu 23, 2013 12:52 pm

So we're going to spend a day at Universal on our next trip, since my wife loves Harry Potter. We'll probably just take a taxi, but are there other options? I could see doing Downtown Disney in the evening of there is an easy way to get there from Universal.

You could do a one-day rental at the car care center in WDW. Might be less expensive or more convenient.

There is also the LYNX bus route 50. There are two stops in WDW. One is at the TTC and the other is at DTD. Here are the directions from trip advisor. "bus 50 to its first stop on Sea Harbor Drive. Transfer there to bus 8. You can then either get off at Universal Boulevard and walk the rest of the way (about 15 minutes walk) or get off at Grand National Drive, cross over International Drive to the stop opposite, and take a 37 right into Universal."

I was pretty certain you could come up with a bus route, Len;). I was hoping for something direct, so I think we'll opt for a taxi. I don't think renting a car would save us any money over a taxi, and the logistics of getting to the rental place and back will certainly take more time (and I would be the one going to the car care center).

It looks like the bus is really cheap, but can take a long time to get between the two parks. The taxi service is pretty quick, but as I found just traveling on WDW property for a before WDW transportation started running hours tour, the taxis are quite expensive. Don't forget that if you have more than 5 people you will want to request a taxi van.
It looks like you might be able to pick up some sort of packaged deal that includes tickets to Universal and transportation. I saw that on a few travel agents' sites. Might be worth a look.

Brian keep in mind the cost. You could probably call up Mears to find out how much it would be for the taxi from your Disney resort to Universal. Keep in mind in you will also have parking and gas to consider when renting the car. Mears does have plenty of vans around so you shouldn't have an issue in getting a vehicle.

Here's the link for that package deal:

This seems like the best way to go, thanks again Amy!

I'm sure you will check out your options to be sure you are getting the best deal ~ once you figure it out, you can let us know how it works out! :D
The package deal does look pretty good since it includes the transportation. I wonder if you can find someone who has done this particular package to make sure the bus is a fairly direct route and doesn't stop and pick up at a whole bunch of hotels on the way. I would guess a quick email to the travel agent would answer some questions.
