Dinning reservation
hello, we juste decide to make a trip from may 29th to june 12th
the thing is, it's so hard to dfind dinning matches...
well we have everything we want except ohana, and for us it was the est part
i just call the reservation center , and they don't have a waiting list
so we are so desappointed, and just keep looking at the website to see if something reopn :s
did you already be in this situation?
give me the hope that maybe someone don't want to dine her anymore and i get these 2 seats :s
we were there in 2009, we came from France so it's not possible so often...
it was our first hollidays together, and now we're celebrating out 6th anniversary (by the way i say 6th anniversary, but it's our meeting anniversary, not wedding anniversary, am i suppose to use the same word? anniversary? )
maybe i should write an email to gues relation and beg on my knee they open the restaurant after midnight or just find me a just so small place in the dinning room :p
my husband says "don't give up, it's magic, just make a wish ansd we will see"
right even if i don't eat there it will be a so exiting trip !

Re: Dinning reservation
Congratulations on your upcoming trip celebrating your 6th anniversary. (I would say you would use the same word to describe it)
I would say go with what your husband says. Check often to see if anything opens up before you go, and if nothing does, you could still check with guest relations when you first arrive. Since you will be staying for a long time, maybe something will open up while you are there. I have heard that Ohana is more popular since a few of the other restaurants, like Le Cellier, have converted to signature dining. I think people still overbook for dining reservations so chances are good something will come available before you travel. Good luck!!

Re: Dinning reservation
You could always choose a less-busy day and try to get a walk-up seating. If you attempt to eat at 6:30 pm you will not get a walk-up. But if you go early right when they open, or wait until later in the evening, you might be able to get seated, especially since there are only two of you in your group. I agree, 'Ohana is not to be missed! It is one of our favorite places for dinner, too! If you can not get in to 'Ohana, try Boma over at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Hi Mandi,
We too didn't love Boma, but we do love Jiko. One of our favorites. Hope you like it.
Enjoy Ohana! FYI we had a vegetarian in our group and, even though the place serves MEAT MEAT MEAT, the chef came out and spent time at our table, and the vegetarian ended up with the best meal of the group.
Have fun!

I would have put 'Ohana as the last place a vegetarian would ever want to eat...nice to know they have some great veggie alternativesdaluke wrote:Hi Mandi,

I loved Jiko when I went for the first time earlier this year. I dined at the open kitchen station and loved the interaction with the cooks. I'll be posting pics of the food soon (hopefully today) in my trip report thread.

Re: Dinning reservation
My personal advice with the dining is to always keep trying. As you saw, reservations do become available. However, the optimal thing to do is book your reservations 6 months in advance to avoid worrying about getting in.

So question: You guys didn't plan this current trip 6 months or more out, did you? If not, how do you handle dining reservations on such short trip-planning notice?Len90 wrote:My personal advice with the dining is to always keep trying. As you saw, reservations do become available. Re: Dinning reservation
Talking to the chef was a fun experience on its own, but then he came out more than once to see how we were doing. And then brought us an extra dessert that was not on the menu, in addition to the dessert we ordered.theBIGyowski wrote:I would have put 'Ohana as the last place a vegetarian would ever want to eat...nice to know they have some great veggie alternatives
It was, basically, a fried wonton filled with choc chip cookie dough, drizzled with chocolate sauce. Very sweet, but very good. Couldn't finish it (too full from the meal) and didn't want him to feel insulted, so I hid about half of it in a napkin and threw it in a trash can.

Re: Dinning reservation
This is probably kind of a hard answer to pin down, although I certainly can't speak for the OP's experience. I imagine very much a function of party size -- the restaurant may not be 100% booked, but if it's got a table for two open and you're trying to make a reservation for four, you're stuck. There's no feedback available on just how much space is available before you make your reservation, so you try and you hope... along with everybody else calling the reservation line. Flexibility in scheduling and small parties to schedule seem to provide the best chances.Amy wrote:Good question ~ I'm a bit curious as wellcy1229 wrote:So question: You guys didn't plan this current trip 6 months or more out, did you?
