Pirates Movie Premiere
I have a beef with Disneyland closing the park early for the Pirates 2 movie premiere. I remember what a pain it was the last time, and although I no longer live in SoCal I feel for my comrades (and the tourists) who will get booted out early.
Here's a radical idea: Why not have the premiere at the Hyperion Theater? Before you object, here are my thoughts on the obvious:
1) It's too small: Not really. And if they had to, they could run it several times - one for VIPs, one for special ticket holders, etc.
2) There are no bathrooms: Yes - this is a sad truth of the DCA construction budget trimming. But they could close off that end of Hollywood Pictures Backlot and use the restrooms between the theater and Hollywood & Dine.
3) If they did that, people couldn't get to Tower of Terror: You could partition the walkway, or more extreme, open the double gates and let people get to ToT via Flik's Fun Fair.

No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

Disney's California Adventure will likely have extended hours this day to accomodate those wishing to visit a theme park at the Disneyland Resort in to the later evening hours.

Jeez people... aren't they even opening earlier on the day of the premier? Either way... Disney fans suuure know how to complain. It's one day.

The debate wasn't whether or not people can survive an early closing, spaulo. Of course in the big scheme of things this is no biggie (although, as you point out, there will no doubt be complaints.)
But I was trying to point out an alternative - a big building that was originally intended to host events such as this. Reading through this discussion, I am heartened by the fact that no one here has panned my suggestion as unworkable.

What's number one, or are you comparing resorts and not parks?mvhsswimmer wrote:Especially during a major celebration during the peak season in the second heaviest attended theme park on the country

Not unworkable, no... but certainly neither as creative. Doing the Pirates premier on the RoA in front of the original attraction is perfect. Sticking it in a building that once hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It! is pretty uninspired.horizons1 wrote:Reading through this discussion, I am heartened by the fact that no one here has panned my suggestion as unworkable.
Or is that not the same building? I can't remember now...

I didn't claim it was a more creative or inspired idea - I said it was an alternative that would allow the park to remain open and to use the theater for its original intended purpose. Admittedly not as glamorous, but it all depends upon what the prime objective is. If it's to pump up the movie release in a heavily themed environment then, yeah, the RoA is a great place to stage it.
Thanks, spaulo, for a spirited debate.
