My Nikon Camera was stolen at Magic Kingdom 3/16/13

Post by cousininmiami » Mar Thu 28, 2013 12:29 pm

I regret having to report this... however, yes my Nikon Coolpix P100 10.3mb camera was stolen from Magic Kingdom on Saturday March 16th at about 3pm near the bathrooms between Carousel of Progress and Space Mountain. I'm sure you all know the one behind that stage area...

The entire clan went to the restroom except for me, I stayed with my sister's wheelchair and a bunch of backpacks and bags. My husband was the first to come out. I took the camera off from around my neck and set it down on the cement benches where everything else was sitting. By the time I came out of the restrooms everyone else was out, my sister was sitting in the wheelchair and everyone was kinda packed up and ready to go... backpacks on etc. So, we all walked towards Space Mountain to wait for my Son and Niece. I felt for my camera around my neck and said, "Oh, who's got my camera?" Well, nobody had it! So I ran back to the bathroom benches.... no camera. I looked everywhere, under, had it dropped? Did my husband see someone take it? No to all the above :(

I went to a Tomorrowland Security man and he was helping me look, called to all Cast Members, and no luck nobody turned it in! I went down Main Street to City Hall and filled out a report. I have been looking on ebay and searching for the camera, the strap and a used Eyefi 8gb card. I am certain it was stolen because if it were lost, someone would have turned it in. At this point actually, I can deal with the loss of a $500 camera... I would just like my card back with my family's pictures on it! I really hate to report this at all, like I said, but maybe someone will get a lead here for me.

Here is a picture of me and my camera earlier in the day that my Dad took...

I had sort of wondered why you hadn't shared any pictures yet. That is so sad that someone would take something that wasn't theirs :(

Some people really suck sometimes, don't they? :( Hoping for a pixie-dust-laden miracle that someone somehow tracks you down and gets your camera and memory card to you... or at the very least your memory card.

Call central lost and found perhaps? Sometimes it takes time for objects to be returned or turned in, which is why, I hate to say, I always tell guests never to jump at the idea that it was a theft. The majority of items end up recovered in the end, and if not, well, then that's when you can safely assume the worst.

I just called Central Lost and Found at Soarin08 suggestion, but they do not have it. I am certain that it was stolen. Anyone who would find something like this, if they were a good person, would turn it in immediately to a Cast Member. Well anyways, if anyone is on ebay or Craigslist or anything like that and you run across it... let me know

That's such a bummer. I hope it at least didn't spoil too much of you and your family's trip. :(

I know this doesn't apply here, but for those who own digital cameras - take a picture of a piece of paper along with your email address/contact info. That way if you lose your camera the person will be able to contact you.

My Dad did pretty much the same thing back in 2000. He accidently left his on a bench at Hollywood Studios for a matter of minutes , and it was gone when they went back to get it. It just makes me so sad. I just can't imagine anyone doing such a thing. It's "just a camera" I know, but like you my Dad had a whole film role, (this was back when cameras still required film), full of pictures. He was so upset at all the memories that he couldn't share with us :(. What a gorgeous camera you had, cousininmiami, and I hope you can somehow get it back. Maybe someone will have a change of heart and turn it in. We will all cross our fingers for you!

Sorry to hear that, cousininmiami. I had the same thing happen with my first Cannon back in 2001 in Las Vegas. I left it on the table with my parents while I went to the restroom in the Paris Hotel, and when I got back a few minutes later they were at the table but not the camera. It was taken by someone right from out under their very eyes! Hotel security said that's not as uncommon as you think. There are some who are unobtrusive in their actions that you do not notice what they're doing when they take things. Your family could have been right there talking, but as long as they're distracted, their presence will not deter some from stealing it right before your family.

Ever since, if I have a camera, I take it with me - even in the restroom - just to not take any chance at all...

The only good news is that the night before I did what I always do, and I uploaded all the days pictures. So the only pictures I lost were the ones from Magic Kingdom that day. Oh well, thanks everyone... you never know it might turn up some day!

You think the thief could be nice enough to leave the memory card, but if the thief was nice, then he wouldn't steal the camera in the first place, would he?
