Re: Escape From Tomorrow: Filmed secretly at WDW/DLR
Somebody's gonna be in troouuuublllleee!!!!
Seriously, I don't think Disney is going to be happy about this AT ALL. I think it's a cool concept, but I'll never understand some of the things that artist types do. Not being an artist type myself, it's hard to wrap my head around why someone would put all that time, effort, and expense into a film that will probably never be shown to anyone but the one screening at Sundance.
...and now I really want to see it.

I'd love to see it as well. But like you guys I don't think this sees the light of day after Sundance. Might have to find some kind of bootleg and pass it around!

I did see this. Interesting, but definitely a problem for someone to make a movie without having permits. It does make me want to see it though, just to see what all they included

The only thing, though, is that I keep thinking that this film is the maker's exorcism of his issues with his father. Further down in the article it states that he is now estranged from his father (which I always find sad). I almost wonder how much of the film is about Disney and how much of it is about a kid who has a stinky relationship with his father.
Make sense?

I saw an interview with the film maker. The movie's premise really has nothing to do with Disney World/Disneyland other than using the setting as a juxtapostion to the dark story he's telling. It's the happiest place on earth but the main character is in a miserable place. He finds out he loses his job during the vacation. He's not all that happy with life in general.

A few years ago, on the way home from 2 weeks at WDW, I found out the company I was contracting with went out of business. I was so glad I didn't get the call on the way there!!kcarts wrote:cy1229 wrote:The only thing, though, is that I keep thinking that this film is the maker's exorcism of his issues with his father. Re: Escape From Tomorrow: Filmed secretly at WDW/DLR
Half way into my last trip to WDW, I got an email saying that when I got back I needed to travel to Texas for a week for work. I was not looking forward to getting home and then hopping back on a plane to be in a hotel for a week. This was right after a 9 day WDW vacation too. At least DW was able to come with me to Texas for the week...so that made it a lot easier. Needless to say...we were so happy to sleep in our own bed and eat a home cooked meal when we got back.Jacca5660 wrote:A few years ago, on the way home from 2 weeks at WDW, I found out the company I was contracting with went out of business. The first I saw of this was on twitter of all places. The Orlando Sentinel feed tweeted out a story on it.elizabethswann wrote:So I'm not alone in reading ONTD!? Or did you get that from google alerts?kcarts wrote:Pardon if this is already elsewhere....

I see it in two lights.
On one hand, at least nothing that is not allowed to be shown (ie., backstage) was shot, that I can tell. Props to them for that respect.
But on the OTHER... getting a permit would have been a smarter thing if it was allowed.

This guy probably lives by the "better to seek forgiveness than ask permission" philosophy.Soarin08 wrote:I see it in two lights.

Technically, none of it is allowed to be shown, since that falls into the category of unauthorized reproduction of protected materials without authorization of the rights holders. Even your home videos, photos, etc. are technically not legal (no, you don't get to claim fair use). The laws were written before you could take a photo, upload it, share it on the net, and have other companies collect data and click money from it without paying a cent to Disney and without having to leave the park.Soarin08 wrote:I see it in two lights.

Also, considering the content of said movie, DIsney would have either not considered it or simply charged such a high fee he wouldn't have been able to pay.
