Not to sound like a jackass, but I'm not sure that is true.

I used to be pretty up on my WDW trivia, and I've got a veritable library of books on the Disney parks. I had never heard this piece of trivia before, so in my free time this weekend I've been scouring those books and the internet looking for an elaboration on the heights of the buildings in World Showcase. All I've been able to find is that several of the buildings are 83 feet tall (the Campanile in Italy and the Pagoda in Japan, which makes sense because they both flank the American Adventure and it would look visually symetrical), the American Adventure is five stories high, and the Hotel du Canada is three stories high.

However, let's assume 83 feet is the height requirement for the nations (because that's the highest point in Japan and Italy). Then that piece of trivia must be false, because there is certainly nothing 83 feel tall in the United Kingdom. That's about as tall as an 8-story building.

FlatlandMounty, I know I'm sometimes a cynical jerk, but do you know where you found that piece of trivia?

It's not always a building, but its something. Like France, its the Eiffel Tower Replica.

Sorry, but I still don't buy it. What is that tall at the UK? Or Germany? Eight stories is pretty high. If you can find the source of that piece of trivia, I'd love to check it out.

I don't know about the eight stories either (about 80ft.). In Germany the top of the beerhall with the clock can't be more than 4 or 5 stories at the most.

The Walt Disney World Triva Book "Secrets, History, and Fun Facts Behind the Magic" by. L. Mongello

The maximum height of any World Showcase pavilion is five stories. The includes tehe Eiffel Tower in France and the temple in Japan, though both look taller thanks to the designers' use of "forced perspective".

All right, so let's assume what Louis Mongello says is true:

That's not the same thing as you posted earlier:

At least that would excuse the United Kingdom and Germany (and possibly more countries) from meeting a minimum height requirement.

However, it STILL doesn't make sense, because the pagoda in Japan and the Campanile in Italy are both 83 feet tall, which is much taller than a five-story building. Also, I've discovered that the Eiffel Tower in France is a 1:13 scale replica, measuring in at 76 feet tall, which also doesn't correlate to what you say Mr. Mongello printed in his book. Admittedly, I don't own that volume, so I cannot verify his exact wording.

Actually, that's not a bad idea! Louis Mongello runs a website called Disney World Trivia. (http://www.disneyworldtrivia.com/). On that website, he has a thread in his forums just for "updates, corrections, addendums and notes to the book." (http://www.disneyworldtrivia.com/forums ... .php?t=264)

Flatland, if you could provide me with the date of publication and the page number of the above quote in that edition, I'll post the question in Mr. Mongello's forum.

There's so much Disney Trivia that's true, and truly incredible, that all the "urban legends" should be rooted out. (Or at least acknowledged to be "tall tales" that have become part of Disney mythology.)

Just curious which trivia book are you referring to?

I don't own the book, it belongs to a friend. I can ask him later. I'd like to know where you found out the actual heights of all the buildings. I'm into architecture and blueprints and junk (sort of my major)
