SK is just a Disney spin on custodials. Deja vu. I thought I answered that one already. Oh well, I think only the Studios uses that term.

Cool, that someone has heard of the program. It's a huge thing. I mean, Disney needs all the suc..I mean interns they can get. And it's true, that the program's classes are geared toward management and business. Go see thise Debby already!

It's hot hot hot. I'm kinda really glad that I won't be here for the summer. I don't think I can take the humidity and suddent downpours.

Well Jedi training camp is well underway. We have so many padowans walking around now. I love how the Jedi teacher tells the trainees the rules of being a Jedi which include using their powers for knowledge and good etc.. Then when Darth Vader comes out, it's like "shoot to kill", lol. Those kids are so cute in their training robes. I just have to laugh everytime I walk by. "The left shoulder, now the right! Duck! The right leg!"

Well next week is supposed to be really crazy crowded. All of us are working six days. So after thurs, my next day off is next saturday. Well, that's what they think. See, many weeks ago, I submitted a request for time off. Within a day or two, the request was approved and complete. I kept checking back to make sure. It was until I checked the schedule, which read that I'm working each day I specifically requested off. So I go back to the online form I filled out, and the form now says, "deny". On the form is also an apology from another scheduler basically saying "oops, our bad, sorry!" Imagine my reaction to that!

I talked to the manager about it, and she said she would talk to the scheduler to see what happened. Well basically it's Spring Break week, so no one gets these days off. So now, I have to work each day that my friends are here to visit me. I looked at my co-workers schedules and they all have to work pretty long shifts as well. I'm waiting on one co-worker to see if I can get her early shift.

But if that doesn't work out, then I really have no choice but to call in sick or use a personal day(or two_. I have one more month left here at WDW. I don't have a reprimand yet, but after next week is over, I'll probably have one, but less than two. Or even two. And if I have two reprimands, that means I'm not in good standing with Disney, and it would be hard for me to come back and work here. Hopefully this won't come back and kick me in the behind one day in the future.

But really, I want to see my friends and spend time with them, not just for them to say "hi" to me while I'm sweeping the streets or cleaning restrooms. So yeah, thank you Disney!

And here's one thing I gotta complain about. People being lazy. My area has so many slackers it's really sad. We have two old guys who disappear and take frequent cigarette breaks. We have one person who will only appear to do a trash run, then disappear again. We have an old-timer who's been here for such a long time that he thinks he can do whatever he wants anytime he wants. He'll come in during a track talk, while the manager is talking and just start blabbing about something no one cares about. Then we have this one lady who is just plain weird and yeah- she's weird:P It just urks me how these people can do hardly anything and get away with it pretty much all the time.

Today even, two full-timers who know the system very well, neglected their duties. Four bags in each trash can- ALL THE TIME. Well there were a total of four trash runs. The two full-timers who I'm complaining about had the first two. By the time the third trash run comes around, the co-worker that had to do it came up to me and said that when she had to pull the cans, there were only one or two bags in each of them. So she had to pull bags and put in at least three bags in each can. You know how long that takes? Waaay too long, especially when the area is crowded because of the parade and the Jedi training sessions, and Epic "dumps". Her trash run took so long, that she wasn't able to do the Muppet cans. I told her to not worry about it, and that I'd do it before I leave because I had the "closing" trash run. Long story short, people screw other people over and could care less, and to make sure you do everything correctly as to cover for yourself. Okay, end of rant :):)

I have two days off, and I'm going to enjoy them.

Thanks for the kind words of discretion. Yeah, being in this role is definitely a learning experience. Here's a thought I had while cleaning up pieces of food last night, "what is the point of having the role available for Custodial for CPs?" Why would Disney want college students to clean up vomit and urine and other things like that? Even though yesterday was really hectic, I still found myself smiling, greeting and chatting with guests up until the very end of the night. I was wiping up pink crap, guests and cast members were trying to be accomodating to me(it was a big mess, people), and I was genuinely returning the gesture. So yeah, "chin up" I heard on the loud speakers somewhere.

And a moment of "aww." Cheshire Cat- I never really read your quote until now, and it made me smile. See----> :)

Well I'm off to Vista Way for some music event thingy.

Sorry to hear all the bad news about the Program. I hope everything turns out better for you buddy.

I just had a discussion with Debby Martin and She told me a lot of things that I already knew, from you or from the website. But It was nice to talk to someone face-to-face about the Disney Program. She mentioned that she has heard that their seminars are very good. To work it out with the school, I would probably have to go to the Records Office and file a "leave of absence". She also mentioned that I should set up a meeting with Lori Martin (no relation) who is assistant to the dean of my department.

She also mentioned how I could take a class down there and earn at least an elective credit or I could just work down there and earn no credit at all (which I want). I just need to schedule a meeting with this Lori Martin and explain to her what my plan is.

I even changed my plans about attending the program during my last semester. It would be really hard on me to take 2 summer classes, 5 in the fall & spring AND still take 2 summer classes next year and have a crazy last semester in the fall.

So what I plan to do is, attend the Fall Program of 2007, and finish all of my classes by Fall of 2008 (my 5 1/2th year). This way, it would be a lot easier on me because from now on, i would only be taking 4 classes per semester. And it also means I only have a year from now to the Disney College Program Interview :)

Sounds like Union workers to me :D ha ha, oh come on take a joke!! I have worked at plenty of jobs that have those types of people in them, I think you have that in every work place. If you are Union it's really hard to fire people like that even if it would be justified. Ok, so now you know I am not pro-union, sorry! I have been in the unions so I speak from experience and that is what I am speaking from my experiences. But like I said to be fair, it happens all the time union or non.

I hope you didn't have to pick up their slack. Next time put the trash in their lockers and say "I think you forgot this!" :D

packwingfn- your plan sounds good to me. You don't really have to rush the program. There are students in all different levels of college. There's a wide age range as well. Just do the program when you feel everything is right. Or just do it when you think it's all too hectic and you need a break.

You can take classes, but those days of class may count as your day off, or you might have to work after class. Just remember to have fun.

Also with custodial- you will probably have a lot of "closing" shifts. So if you want the evenings and nights free, you might not want to choose that role(DAK would be the exception because it closes early). But we do definitely get two days off.

The fall would be nice. I have no idea about the weather, but there's no busy holidays to worry about. There are plenty of conventions though.

So yeah, meet with Lori Martin and really tell her how important the Program means to you and how it will give you lots of work experience(trust me on this one). You will be right there working with full time employees of a international super company! And you will have the chance to "market" yourself if you choose. My roommate made business cards and handed them out for a class.

Bostoncg- that crack about the Union workers actually is fitting. A lot of my co-workers are in the Union. They also complain about it too. So really, let's just all get along! I did have to pick up their slack because if I didn't then I would get in trouble because the openers for the next day would find trash and yeah- wouldn't be pretty. Being a good worker can sometimes backfire because then others know that you will the work. So they may leave things behind just for you.

I would have loved to leave the trash in their lockers. I didn't get to talk to the manager about it, so tomorrow I will definitely bring it up.

So today I spent some time with my roommates and we drove to DAK for Everest, which was closed in preparation for tomorrow. Well the entire Asia area was closed off, so we had lunch at the Tusker House(i got the fried chicken sandwich- it was okay). Then we did the Kilamanjaro Safari which was awesome per usual. One roommate never saw it and was pretty impressed. Then we saw the parade. Those floats are so awesome because they're all man-powered. After that was It's Tough To Be A Bug, which was all right. Not a huge fan of it.

Then it was off to the Studios for ToT. The wait was supposedly 30 minutes, but it felt like an eternity because 1) it was hot 2) i felt gross because the heat 3) there were stupid, loud, foul-mouthed teenaged girls behind us(like an army of them) and 4) did I mention the sticky heat?. Well ToT was really fun, and after that I showed them around my area for a while. We got to the Hollywood Hills about 7:45pm, and it was so packed already! Wow, I've never seen it so crowded. We got seats on the right hand side right in front of the screen, so it was cool. Not so cool was the gnats flying all around though.

After Fantasmic we just went home cuz we felt so yucky. Two of my roommates are going to PI tonight, presumably to drink the night away. I really don't have the money or the motivation to do that. Besides it's going to be packed tonight because today is EPCOT and it's the last day to get in for free.

Tomorrow is back to the grind. I have my Cast Update, which is something I'm not too sure exactly what it entails. I think we just meet in ABC theatre and listen to someone...talk. But I hear we get free soda and cookies! Party time up in here

Thanks for all the information. I will call Lori Martin at Monday to schedule an appointment.

And I really don't mind working night shifts as a custodial because I'm not really the BEST morning person to begin with so I'm not sure if I can deal with an 8am shift :) I wouldn't be no nice to the guests. I hope I work in MGM or DAK because compared to MK and EPCOT, their my least favorite so I'm not sure if I would want to work in a park that I love, you know?

I don't really wanna take any classes, I told Debby Martin that and she understood because they do fall on your day off so I wouldn't have any time to have any fun. I will probably just take a leave of absence of school and just work down there.

Yeah no big holidays in the Fall which is good. I guess I chose that because it does get warm in the Spring Months so I don't know if I could deal with the heat.

I will have more questions about the Program shortly before my meeting with Lori Martin.

O O O My heart is breaking......Halloween in the world brings in many people for those nights, and if your placed in MK you are going to be working all night long. And many of the folks will go over to the other parks during the day too. And I doubt you would get Thankgiving off, Veterans Day, Labour Day, Columbus Day, or in early December it is still crowded for the Christmas season. I'm not trying to scare you but they are holidays, yeah no spring break but Dec. is pretty busy. The others are more of the "hey a three day weekend we can go to WDW" kind of holidays.

Okay, I'll give ya Halloween in the World. And yeah, especially at the beginning of the Holiday season through Christmas till after Jan 1st. The kind of busy I'm talking about is entire months of cheerleading and dancing competitions(ya know, things that make you want to scream in horror)special events like marching band, dinners in GMR, Epic, prom, convention season, spring break for the U.S and the UK, which seems to last for entirely too long. Don't forget extra magic hours on certain days throughout the year. So yeah, no matter which season you choose, there will always be things going on.

I got here just when all the Holiday events were winding down. I remember the Osborne lights were only up for a week after I arrived. It would be awesome to spend Christmas at WDW as a guest. Maybe not so much as a cast member.

Well tomorrow night my friends are flying in, and they haven't been here for a relatively long time, so I get to show them all around the World. :D

Hey everyone, I'm back from a little vacation(even though I didn't go anywhere).

Today I got my graduation ticket for May 9th. Graduation for us is either the 9th or the 10th. You can pick which day you want. Now if you get that day off, is entirely up to you.

Spring Break is crazy!!!!! Just look at how many ! i had to use. So far I worked last weekend and Monday and Tueday. Just wow. I worked in zone 1 near the Hat, and boy was I busy. It didn't help that it was really windy so I was chasing trash all day long. Also, some imporant cast members kept on camping out in my zone, so I had to be careful and not just stand around like I sometimes(a lot) do.

Also for the first time, I had to go through the GMR queue line and take out trash. If you don't know where the cans are- good luck to you. I had to squeeze in there constantly excusing my intrusion for the quests. I also called one female guest a "sir" by mistake, and felt so bad right after. I couldn't help it, she wore a baseball cap and had really short hair, and her back was to me. *sigh*

So if it's really windy and you see trash on the ground then sorry! We're trying our best to clean it up. It's just not very fun to chase popcorn down Hollywood Blvd.

I wasn't able to exchange shifts or get the days off while my friends were visiting. So I called in sick for two days and called in for one personal day. So if I still have a job tomorrow, then I know I have at least one reprimand and then some.

The three days went by really fast and now I'm a little sad that my friends are gone. Throughout dinner at Rainforest Cafe, I kept on spacing out, depressed about how time flies. I didn't want my friends to go, but I didn't want to go home either. At least we had lots of fun goofing off and seeing the Disney sites.

Tomorrow is back to the grind and I'm doing...restrooms! Woot for me.

And remember- don't feed the animals! It says it right on the back of the napkins!!

So Lion, when you called in sick those 2 days . . . did you do any of the parks with your friends? If so, were'nt you worried you'd get caught? Anyway, I hope it all turns out and you don't get into trouble. That's the bad thing about big corporations - sometimes - because they won't give you a day off that you request - you have to call in sick. Very sad that people have to do that, they'd be better off just giving you the days off and have a happy employee. (But I'm not a corporation, so what do I know? )

I digress . . . I can't believe you graduate early next month!!! Where'd the time go?! I know we'll miss your insider reports. So, when do your return back to your home state?

I'm joining the college program this May. I'm working in Operations. Of course, I won't find out my assignment until I get there. I'm psyched. I'm in Copmuter Graphics. I hope to one day work my way into a creative imagineering job.

Maybe we can switch the topic of this post to College Program Stories or something. I hope this board is still up when I attend in the Fall of 2007
