Re: Soft Openings before new Fantasyland
Which is what I was getting at, unless they want to turn their project into a major rebuild, they had to stick with what they had. In the case of imagination, they also had a less... heavy-duty track since less energy is used, lower speeds, and different tolerances for the track. That and, apparently, the reason they built over the carousel part was partially because (most likely due to poor documentation) they didn't know how it worked. Since they couldn't modify the system, they had to bypass it.

Re: Soft Openings before new Fantasyland
I can wait...I don't want ANY construction walls to ruin my view the first time I lay eyes on the New FantasyLand. I especially want the 7 Dwarves to be open...it's the one attraction I am most looking forward to. Fantasyland has never been a fav of mine as far as the attractions go. I love the caroussel of course...it's gorgeous. LOVE Philharmagic! All the others I go on occasionally when I visit but don't always make an effort...depends on my mood, or who is in our group. I practically live in FTL, AL, and LS in that order. For the most part I think Fantasyland is nicely geared toward the little ones...nothing too scary, no BIG drops, or fast coasters. But with all that said, I can't wait to....
1) Experience Dumbo for the first time in my life (love the water feature).
2) Eat at, Be Our Guest.
3) Experience the Seven Dwarves Mine ride
4) Enjoy the architecture, and beauty of the landscaping.

I'm most looking forward to the Seven Dwarves Mine Ride as well. Something about the swinging cars intrigues me

Neat, I'm guessing their wings won't actually be able to flap like the teaser video shows since that would make things way more complicated.

Can you tell if there is someone on board this while it is flying, or a remote control sort of thing?NaCler wrote:Spoiler alert...

There is a pilot, it looks like a mix between an air boat and a glider. It looks similar to the type of plane John Denver was flying when he died.
(going with the cost comment)
That and you would probably need to change the rules of aerodynamics for heavier than aircraft. I don't think anyone has made a working, non-fixed wing aircraft that employs "flapping"

I didn't think so, either, so I Googled it to be certain. This is what I found: http://newslite.tv/2010/09/24/engineers ... wered.htmlWizzard419 wrote:There is a pilot, it looks like a mix between an air boat and a glider. It looks similar to the type of plane John Denver was flying when he died.

The wingspan is much too long to be practical to use in the MK. Don't you think?

Pretty cool cy ~ but yeah, it looks a little impractical for the dragon.cy1229 wrote:I didn't think so, either, so I Googled it to be certain. That and it also doesn't has an animal like movement. What is curious is if they are going to try and make it breathe fire. While the effect itself is no more difficult than fantasmic (small burst of fire out of the mouth and another timed fire start on a surface somewhere). If they tried to use actual fire, or even a rocket/flare, it might not show up well because of the air. That and you don't want to fly right into fire you just started.

Yeah, flying and fire doesn't seem like it would mix wellWizzard419 wrote:That and it also doesn't has an animal like movement. What is curious is if they are going to try and make it breathe fire. Yeah a certain airship disaster involving highly flammable fabric covering a hydrogen balloon comes to mind.Amy wrote:Yeah, flying and fire doesn't seem like it would mix wellWizzard419 wrote:That and it also doesn't has an animal like movement. The Hindenburg disaster actually came up during a piano lesson a few weeks ago. My student, who is about 11, hadn't heard of it. Hopefully they just haven't gotten to that chapter of history yetcy1229 wrote:Yeah a certain airship disaster involving highly flammable fabric covering a hydrogen balloon comes to mind.Amy wrote:Yeah, flying and fire doesn't seem like it would mix wellWizzard419 wrote:That and it also doesn't has an animal like movement. Probably not, considering that they have more standarization in education and stuff like that is a litte bit more on the fringe. For example, the Lucitania sinking is more likely to get covered than the Titanic since it was directly related to the war.

this is what they are talking about... it is an ultralight, crewed, and the edges of the wing are designed to flutter ...

as you can see... it hangs from an inflated wing parachute
