Looks like there were a lot of complaints about this and Disney has responded:

I just let out a HUGE sigh of relief just now. Good move on their part. I couldn't see them erasing the entire bakery from Main Street entirely.

Wonder if they changed their plan after seeing the negative comments or if this was the plan all along and they just needed to clarify it.MadEye wrote:Looks like there were a lot of complaints about this and Disney has responded:

Re: Starbucks taking over Main Street Bakery
Usually I would be jaded and tell you it was their plan all along. However, given the way people in Indiana rallied together to beat the incumbent in the last election, I'm going to admit I hope it's that we (people in general) changed Disney's mind.Amy wrote:Wonder if they changed their plan after seeing the negative comments or if this was the plan all along and they just needed to clarify it.MadEye wrote:Looks like there were a lot of complaints about this and Disney has responded:

I'm going to be nice and say it was the plan all along, we just read into it wrong. If it wasn't, at least we know that enough negative comments can change at least some things.Amy wrote:Wonder if they changed their plan after seeing the negative comments or if this was the plan all along and they just needed to clarify it.MadEye wrote:Looks like there were a lot of complaints about this and Disney has responded:

I have a feeling they simply did what they did at DLR, they replaced the coffee and recipies for the drinks but what got peoples' collective panties in a bunch was reading it like "They got rid of the old place and put in a starbucks".

Re: Starbucks at WDW
Does anyone remember what the Main Street Bakery used to be like? The big cakes that resembled the ones in Pollyanna, and at the summer camp dance in The Parent Trap(original)? You know, Sunday picnics at the turn of the century Kinda cakes
. When you ordered a slice they would cut a gargantuan slice right there in front of you, and slap it on a WDW stenciled paper plate. They didn't reach into a refridgerated case behind them to pull out a slice that was cut hours before, and covered in plastic. Oh, no
! This was a real, wholesome, Main Street, USA, turn of the century cook from scratch, BAKERY!!! Now OK, I admit I have never had ANYTHING from that bakery that wasn't anything short of delicious, even in more recent years, but once upon a time, it happened to be EXACTLY what it was meant to be
.
I was thoroughly discusted when I heard about Starbucks was moving in on OUR Main Street, but I have to admit, I was relieved when I read the letter from Disney stating that MSB was going to continue to be themed as MSB, and not turned into Starbucks the way I had envisioned. Let's face it MSB can never be what it once was, well it could, but we all know it won't

That is cool ~ I never knew they used to cut big old hunks off a whole cake. I'm sure that would never work today, but that would have been neat to see ~ and taste!Sharonofwindham wrote:Does anyone remember what the Main Street Bakery used to be like? Re: Starbucks taking over Main Street Bakery
If they intended for this to be the plan all along, they really need to work on their writing skills and the way that they release information. The Disney Parks blog on their website stated the following in the initial release: "At Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street Bakery will close for refurbishment in January 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in early summer." To me, "reopen as a Starbucks" only has one meaning.Amy wrote:Wonder if they changed their plan after seeing the negative comments or if this was the plan all along and they just needed to clarify it.MadEye wrote:Looks like there were a lot of complaints about this and Disney has responded:

Yes...the way they originally released the information made it sound like the Main Street Bakery was going away and that when the refurb was done it would be a Starbucks.
Like I said earlier...I don't really mind Disney bringing in someone to provide coffee because they have Coca-Cola providing all of their sodas. So it's not crazy to have a big company providing their coffee.

There's this issue today called "Childhood Obesity"....there's no way they could bring that back without getting thousands of complaints from angry health nuts.Sharonofwindham wrote:Does anyone remember what the Main Street Bakery used to be like? Re: Starbucks at WDW
A gargantuan slice back then would probably be smaller than what they serve today as a "normal" portion. I remember the "large" drink at McDonald's used to be about the size of a "medium" now.TikiTikiRoom wrote:There's this issue today called "Childhood Obesity"....there's no way they could bring that back without getting thousands of complaints from angry health nuts.Sharonofwindham wrote:Does anyone remember what the Main Street Bakery used to be like? Amy's right. One of those huge drink cups filled with Coke (I'm guessing 20 oz) would be almost 240 calories. The average slice of chocolate cake you would be served in a restaurant would be around 240 calories as well.
Didn't mean to get all "Bloomberg" there. It's just that most people don't realize how many calories and sugar they take in just with the things they drink.

Yes, I know kids that have dessert for breakfast, lunch and dinner these daysSharonofwindham wrote:You guys took me too literallyTikiTikiRoom wrote:There's this issue today called "Childhood Obesity"....there's no way they could bring that back without getting thousands of complaints from angry health nuts.Sharonofwindham wrote:Does anyone remember what the Main Street Bakery used to be like? . My point was that it was more like a REAL bakery, slice to order type deal, not McDonald's style where everything is done ahead of time. I'm sure they do it just to save time, keep things moving along, and everything tastes just as good anyway
. Regarding "childhood obesity", it's funny how we didn't have as much of a problem back then. More processed foods now than homemade treats occasionally
.
