Did you see the mermaids splashing alongside the boat?cy1229 wrote:The only thing I noticed different on Pirates was that the misty "vapor fall" that used to have Davy Jones now has Blackbeard - right at the start of the ride. Yeah, they did the Blackbeard thing a while ago. I don't know exactly when, but it was there when we went in April.cy1229 wrote:The only thing I noticed different on Pirates was that the misty "vapor fall" that used to have Davy Jones now has Blackbeard - right at the start of the ride. Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

If it is like DLR, they did the addition right at the time the movie came out I think.
At WDW does your rotate between Jones and Blackbeard or is it all blackbeard? I don't think we will be getting dead mermaids mostly because the context would be off. They could do it in the room after the drop, but the mist screen is in th tunnel right before you enter the main ride.

The WDW mist screen is right at the beginning, too, just before the drop. I talked to the hubby and he didn't notice any mermaids, either. However, like I said, neither one of us were looking for them. I asked him tonight if he remembers seeing them and his response was along the line of "ooh I should have looked, that would be perfect!"

I've ridden about 10-15 times since it changed, and I've only seen Blackbeard since then.Wizzard419 wrote:At WDW does your rotate between Jones and Blackbeard or is it all blackbeard? Ah, might be because of the direct mermaid theme. With us the tunnel into the cannon battle as well as the tunnel back to the surface play DJ then BB so everyone gets a turn.

I have heard that the mermaid effect is not complete, so maybe they are adding more to it or just tweaking it to make it more noticeable. I'll try and give a report when I see it this weekend.

It would be awesome ifthey did projected mermaids in and around your boat like the ghosts at the end of Haunted Mansion.
I also think it would be cool if they added a live pirate in the large room that interacted withthe passengers on the boat like the Great Movie Ride.

That's what keeps me going, the fact that the longer it takes for me to get back, the more new stuff to experienceJacca5660 wrote:By the time we are able to go again, it's gonna be a whole new experience!! It'll be like going WDW the first time all over again!!

That would legitimately creep me out (possibly in a good way). May bring back terrible memories of the Universal Jaws ride though.rphillips14 wrote:It would be awesome ifthey did projected mermaids in and around your boat like the ghosts at the end of Haunted Mansion.

I really like this addition. Even though Disney has the money to do much more intricate complicated things, I think this is a nice addition to the ride.

I agree Rapunzel. It is a subtle change but adds to the creepiness of the beginning of the ride.

It'd be even creepier/cooler if they added some more actual pirate lore to the ride. Legend has it that when Blackbeard was slain off the coast of the Carolinas, his head was kept as a prize. When the body was dumped overboard, it apparently swam around the ship several times before submerging into the depths. A bad omen. To this day Blackbeard's body is said to be seen floating around the same waters where he was killed. Creepy, yeah?

Aye! It's a fairly common legend though. The crew that ended Teach's career kept his head on the bow of their ship as a warning/trophy. Goodness I love local lore.
