Carousel of Progress is nice to sit and rest for a bit but again not a favorite. Space Mountain was fun, I haven't been on the new version though. They definitely could add some more rides and entertainment there to bring more people in.
The Laugh Floor is a must see. It's funny - mostly groan jokes though - but I like it because some of it is live and you never really know how people are going to react. Hello, humans!!
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

A funny (at least to me) COP story: I live in a tiny town of 650 people. I usually let my kids walk the two blocks home from school, but a not-so-stable lady down the street went off her meds and insists I ransacked her house and tells the neighbors she wants to kill me. I decided letting my kids walk by her house was not such a good idea.

While walking home with my 8-year-old son yesterday, he asked for the explaination - again - of why he can't walk home by himself. I tried to explain that her brain was not working right and although she is a good person, she needs help right now. I told him that is it like she lives in nightmares and dreams and can't figure out what is reality right now.

As we are walking down the street, he broke out into song, "And when it becomes a reality, it's a dream come true for you and me!" Then added, "But it isn't a great big beautiful tomorrow for her right now, I guess."

Exactly. The wisdom of COP and an 8 year old. Refurb the COP - we need dreams.

Nice story. COP has an impact on kids...if they pay attention. I first saw "Progressland" at the GE Pavilion at the NY World's Fair when I was 10 years old. I remembered things about it for the next 15 years until I saw it again, as COP, in the MK. My kids have loved it since they were little, and still do (they're in their 20's now). Not sure why, but it's a classic that should be kept.
Regarding "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" or "Now is the Time", they both are great. Why not alternate the version? One day, one song, the next day, the other. I know it would require two versions of both the song and the animitronics, but certainly that is possible - nearly 50 years after it was first created - there must be technology to do it. Could be part of the refurb - new technology on the animitronics and new story and song options. Probably can't change it DURING the day, since you hear the song from one "stage" to the next, but never knowing which you would hear could be fun.

That is funny, and sad, all at the same time. Nice that your son has empathy for your neighbor though.

The COP is one of the only memories I had of Disney World. We went in the 15th anniversary year and I was 8. I remembered the musical theme to the parade, Tom Sawyer's cave, being petrified of Haunted Mansion and refusing to open my eyes the whole ride, and snippets of a few other places. But the thing I really remembered a lot was the COP.

I thought it was in Epcot though. When I came back for the first time on our honeymoon in 2005, I was convinced they'd replaced it with something else. Then, on our last day, we happened to be walking through Tomorrowland and I realized we'd missed an attraction - and there it was. I was very excited. I don't know why, but the COP made a huge impression on me as a child. It was, by far, my most clear memory of Disney World.

Neat story! I wonder if it made such an impression because it was a longer attraction? The catchy music? Interesting what stays with us and what doesn't. I really enjoy Carousel of Progress and would miss it if it ever completely disappeared!

BenB...you may have been thinking of Horizons there in Epcot back the mid-late 80s. It had a COP look and feel to it and also had "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" in it.

While I did remember pieces of Horizons (and I only know that because I saw the pictures here a little while ago, and some were familiar), in this case it was definitely COP. I was just too young to remember which park we were in at the time.

I didn't really remember the music. The one scene that was very vivid was when all the appliances turn on. Other than that it was just a general familiarity, with memories of certain scenes.

You are proof that this attraction does appeal to all ages :mickey:. Kids aren't only interested in thrill rides when they go to Disney. It's attractions like COP that are unique to Disney that keep people coming back! My opinion is COP is the star attraction of Tomorrowland!

If people give the non-thrill rides a chance that is. I think the kids are tuned in to what their parents are thinking. If Mom and Dad are willing to give an attraction a chance, then the kids are more likely to as well. Not all attractions will appeal to everyone, but you never know what you might like unless you try!

I think that's part of the problem... all the kids today they want thrills and scares and excitement.... They need to remember that a ride doesn't have to be scary to be good...

One of my piano families spent last Thanksgiving at Universal Studios last Thanksgiving and went there again this year. When the Mom was describing why I should go (wasting your time lady  ) all she talked about were the thrill rides they enjoyed...not a thing about shows or atmosphere.
